Bob Dylan? I’d rather gouge my eyes out than go to a Dylan concert. Madonna ahead of Pink Floyd? Puh-leaze.
A lot of good ones. Some, like Alicia Keys are great artists but they are far too young and it is far too soon to judge them in this category. Also, unlike several of the other young artists/bands, she didn’t break through any musical barriers or achieve any major milestones (like Mariah beating the Beatles number of gold records).
I’m not saying she isn’t a great artist.. it is just too soon for her to be on this list.
Boo Yeah!
The Beastie Boys! Man everyone knows that song “Cookie Puss”! /s
“All Time” to them is about fifty years.
Wow, Depeche Mode? Really? lol
What a crappy list!
No ELO?
I think she had her first number one twenty-years ago this year. Just saying. I don't really care for her music, but this isn't her first rodeo.
Totally eclipsed by Tupak Shakur...
That’s what I was wondering. At least the Beastie Boys made it.*eyes rolling*
They’ve been playing since 80 and they are still selling out stadiums and have the same energy they did in the 80s. Plus, they don’t play the, we are retired, no we aren’t, yes we are game.. they just keep doing concerts like they are still 18.
We’ve been to at least 7 of their concerts.. never disappointed.
WTF!!!!
Prince at number 7.
No Alice Cooper?
Useless list.
I’d think Elvis should rate before that fruitcake Prince and that drip Bob Dylan and that idiot Michael Jackson. Come on. It’s Elvis! And I’m not the biggest Elvis fan either.
And no "Moody Blues," either, in the top 100. But there's a lot of folks I've never heard any songs of, though.
Prince #7?....blech.
They’ve got Tupak Shukar, but NOT Dave Matthews. I don’t think so.
Or Ella Fitzgerald, or Louis Armstrong, or Duke Ellington, or ....
The shallowness of this list just shows how irrelevant VH-1 is and probably always has been.
All Time to them is about fifty years.”
And will VH1 be remembered in fifty years?
Depeche Mode should be much higher than 98. They only sold 100 million records worldwide.
Nope, Alicia Keys won best new artist in 2001. She has done a lot, but still a new kid on the block.
So you haven’t commented yet on Rush being #75.
Interesting they put Peter Gabriel higher than Genesis.
Davinci? Michaelangelo? Van Goethe?
METAL PING!!!
Rage Against the Machine?!?!?!.....please.
Coldplay at 67? WTF
What about the legendary Buddy Holly?
Elvis Number 7? What a joke. Try first or second with The Beatles.
Anyone else is a distant third. One thing I hate about these “lists” is they always try to “diversify” along ethnic or era.
Too often the decision makers are far too young to have a clue. Nirvana ahead of The Beach Boys? Gimme a break.
Sorry, I was talking about Mariah. I thought you were including her with Alicia, but as I reread your post, I guess you weren't.
Bob Dylan ... and Prince ... in the top 10 ???? Get real.
You are right about Mariah, she deserves to be on the list..
How do you look past the Dead, and still select RATM. Personally, I can't stand either one, but at least the Dead have some longevity.
I guess, ‘of all time’ doesn’t include the time of Mozart, Stephane Grappelli, or David (of the Bible). This list is about as useless as ‘Greatest songs of all time, that were sung by Barney the Dinosaur’..
They totally ignored “Rastabilly-Skank!”
Relax, Caravaggio, Conrad and Chopin are Bubbling Under the HOT 100 this week.
This is supposed to be about artistry not popularity.
100,000,000 * 0 = 0
Diphead Mode should be nowhere near a top 100 list.
Maybe they meant to include KMFDM?
Where’s Rick Astley? Millions of people listen to him every day! Though they are usually tricked into it ...
Where are the Hollies?, The Doors? the Carpenters? THE TEMPTATIONS?? Most of these listed are enough for me to jab my ears with an ice pick. The King was #8???. and before Dylan? No way. I guess I’m too old to be a VH1 judge.
Dylan? Hmmm, maybe top 25.
Prince (although I enjoy some of his music) is a self important twit.
What did one Deadhead say to the other after the drugs wore off?
“Man, this band sucks.”
Just kidding guys! Please put down the tar and feathers. Electronic pop has never been my thing but I did have a Depeche Mode album in middle school (early 80’s) and I do recall dancing around quite a bit to it and I think I may have even had a crush on one of the band members.
George Michaels and Justin Timberlake?
Why not Boy George and Liberacci?
No ZZ Top or Allman Brothers? No Al Green? No Smoky Robinson? Rolling Stones? Jimi Hendrix?
Hell! The Monkees were beter than many of these people.
Why do I think whoever came up with this list grew up in the 70’s?
no chubby checker?
who the hell made this list? some punk under 30?
Will any of these “artists” be remebered in 50 years? Maybe a handful but I doubt it.
Its just his act. Y'all do know that Prince in real life is a very Conservative, Jehovah's Witness?
