On this day in 1862, the Democratic Party nominated Horatio Seymour for Governor of New York. Seymour denounced the Emancipation Proclamation as "a proposal for the butchery of women and children, for scenes of lust and rapine, for arson and murder unparalleled in the history of the world." At the onset of the Civil War, Seymour had called for the federal government to allow the rebel states to secede if they insisted on preserving slavery.

Most of the neo-Confederate loons on Free Republic are Democrat operatives, trolling to discredit conservatives.
Considering that the Emancipation Proclamation wasn't issued until September 22nd, 1962, that couldn't have been a factor in his nomination. Maybe the use of the word 'later' before 'denounced' might help here...
Yes, that’s a good point. Will fix it.
Anyway, the Democratic Party proudly nominated a man who opposed freeing the slaves.
To be clear, Seymour, before his nomination, was very clear in his opposition to an emanciation proclamation, which had been publicly debated and anticipated before it was actually issued in September 1862.
“Most of the neo-Confederate loons on Free Republic are Democrat operatives, trolling to discredit conservatives.”
Who might they be? Am I one? Because I DO object to the your nasty tone and game playing here and have told you so.
When you start your little Southern bashing sessions, do you send PM to the “neo-Confederate loons” to stir things up and get more hits to your blog, like you have done with me? Dishonest doesn’t begin to describe your tactics.
Be careful with what you post ... I am not going to debate it, just a friendly warning. Getting blood boiling is a good thing if it is righteous, but not just for the sake of doing it. A Partisan is a partisan and usually has a blind eye ... which, in the case of the GOP, can be pretty awful, as we have seen from some of the strategy being employed by the brain trust of Steele and Company ... there are not a few who are offended by the new GOP Southern Strategy and its attendant historical omissions, misstatements and Southerner bashing.
Just an opinion from someone who thinks a transparent, pseudo-intellectual one trick pony like you is more prone to BS than any troll. Stop with your relentless Southern hating trash talk. I for one am sick of it.
Yes, your having been around for a couple of months qualifies you to make such judgments.

Sit down, junior.
I clarified the article to say “Seymour would later denounce the Emancipation Proclamation...”
Thanks,
As far as I’m concerned, Mr. Zak, you’ve already discredited yourself with your failure to answer numerous simple and direct questions put to you by myself and many others. You’re apparently just here to pimp your blog, your book and a mindlessly, ideologically ungrounded “party.” Most of the rest of us are here to discuss Conservatism and how it impacts today’s politics.
He wasn’t the first, and hasn’t been / won’t be the last.
