The video is excellent, but among the data that convinced me were interview after interview of witnesses whose FBI testimonies were altered without their permission. There were a number of home videos of the event removed from their owners possession with owners threatened with prosecution if they had copies and shared them. There was also high resolution radar data locked up by the government so that no other hypothesis could easily be confirmed.
Finally for me, a physicist/engineer, a physicist from Florida, unable to obtain the high res radar data covering Long Island and maintained by the FAA, managed to obtain weather radar data and process the images, (though the government had added noise to try to obscure even the weather records) to extract sufficient detail to clearly observe small craft in the in region, in the Flight 800 flight path, unaccounted for and traveling at high speed away from the Naval maneuvers going on at the time.
Admiral Thomas Moorer and another former chairman of the Joint Chiefs both believed the cover-up, about which for them there was no doubt, was not in the national interest. There is a lengthy video of the presentation and explanation for the image analysis results. Moorer and the other Admiral are in attendance. This is just science. There is little doubt that what was reported was politics, and even politics for which there are plausible explanations.
Defending commercial airliners from portable SAM attacks is not easy. The Israelis have spent much time and money developing technology. I don't know if we are deploying it today. Clinton was running for reelection, and hardly had a reputation for his acumen as a commander in chief. His base might have stayed home if he had. He also would have suffered by making the admission that we couldn't defend our airliners. It would have devastated our airline industry for a time. And, while there were warnings in Middle Eastern papers of an impending event, our officials see lots of those. Without specifics, there was nothing he could do.
I see the rationale for a cover-up, but agree with Moorer. It would have been better to level with citizens. Airplanes have flown in and out of Bagdad’s airport, flying over neighborhoods where SAMs are easily be concealed, and none have been shot down, though many SAMs have been launched, in seven years. Though there may be a reluctance to use anti-aircraft artillery defenses which are capable of guiding artillery to destroy a launch site, usually before the enemy ordinance has exploded, in the neighborhoods around our airports.
The previous pilot of the airplane used for Flight 800, who had just flown the airplane in from Europe, knew the truth, and helped Saunders and his wife get samples of upholstery from seats to be tested by an independent laboratory. The chemistry of a missile warhead is very different from that of ‘exploding’ aviation fuel - if anyone can manage to get it to explode! The Saunders’ wouldn't tell how they got the sample, but the FBI went to work and recovered a PC used to write the book “First Strike”. It had the email address and thus the identity of the pilot, who was threatened with ruin if he didn't testify against Saunders to silence him. Saunders and his wife were in and out of court because they were searching for the truth.
Navy Cmdr. William S. Donaldson was an air safety expert, and a capable engineer. He managed to compile debris field data with can yield solid information about the event causing the pieces to disburse. He used Boeing engineering data to refute the model created by the CIA, and burned the aviation fuel on his barbecue to demonstrate why fuel tanks never explode - the fumes of the fuel used today are very difficult to ignite! The Cmdr. died of cancer just as he was beginning to publish his work. His intention was to collate the enormous amount of physical analysis into a book.
Finally, when two reserved pilots, with almost one hundred Viet Nam missions between them, both well employed, one an attorney, report having seen a SAM, who do you believe. They were up over Long Island getting their flying hours to maintain reserve status, when the missile was launched. They didn't see the launch, but did see part of its trajectory. I have seen SAMs, and worked on fire control systems. Their exhaust is very distinctive, and the in-flight corrections they display are unmistakable, like cat changing course to follow a mouse across a field. There are good technical reasons having to do with heat seeking technology, for the zig-zag path into the target, but it, and the blue-white exhaust are very distinctive, particularly on a clear Summer evening.
The Government refused to take eye witness information for Congressional hearings from any of the witnesses. It was a cover up!
I'd recommend that you find Jack Cashill’s book. Search for Commander Donaldson's work. There are still sites which carry his analysis and the saga of his battles with the FBI and Clinton FAA Administration. But I'll surprise you with a third reference which explains the event as well as any book I've seen: “A God Who Hates” by Wafa Sultan, a Syrian-born psychiatrist who explains what Westerners are finding so hard to accept. Islam, which was a recipe for survival 1400 years ago, still survives by that recipe - kill everyone who won't submit to our rule. It is both interesting and fitting that the most powerful teachers of this reality are former Muslim women, Wafa Sultan and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. They live under constant threat, a threat which, unfortunately, our current resident in the White House is working to sustain.
