Skip to comments.5 Day Diet Pre Colonoscopy
Posted on 09/13/2010 12:40:11 PM PDT by Global2010
Ok I know what one can't eat on the 5 days prior to a colonoscopy.
What are some meals we can eat?
How about compiling a list/thread of can chow down on foods/meal for the week prior?
White Bread/Turkey/Mayo is one I can dig.
Broiled White fish w/lemon and smoked salt
If you care to and are a pro at the colon pre week diet mode please list some ideas other than the usual suggestions.
We all now what we can't have the week prior seeds/leafy veggies/celery/fruit (basically things with peels or seeds) red/purple/orange dyes.
And the need to be very hydrated (diet 7up is my choice).
Gatorade clear the colored stuff has the no/no dyes.
BTW this is my 3rd procedure and I am normally a veg/seed diet person so last time I ate too much meat stuff prior and got really ill.
Thanks ahead of time.
Just as hot coming out as going in.
This thread is useless without pictures.
Please, no pictures of Katie Colonic having her procedure on live TV...
Ate normally until the day before and had to drink that awful stuff with out any food. Not aware of any special diet for 5 days.
No matter what you eat, it’s ALL coming out, pretty much uncontrollably, as a result of the procedure ;-)
I ate normally before mine.. then came the day prep ..a most unpleasant experience..but a necessity
One tip ...You can mix crystal lite with the junk you have to drink
I just dieted the day before!
Why not just eat nothing for five days.
Drink only water?
That’s what I’m doing.
Are you posting your pictures??!
I’ve never heard of the prep lasting that long.
Same here. Actually, the Colon Purge, the day before, was by far, the worst part of the experience. Couldn’t wait for it to end so I could chow down...
The colon cam is down today.
Did you use a Nikon or Cannon to take that shot?
Starting two days prior lots of highballs.
Remember the last day mix them with Ginger Ale. :)
Eat this for five days and your guaranteed to have the cleanest colon in the county. ;-)
Oh, I don’t know if that will work. You must drink the stuff (yuk) till you feel like cr*p, then you’ll know you are ready. : ?
Take it from me, don’t take sleeping pills (or tylenol PM) with the stool softener.
That and waiting in the waiting room the next morning, hungry and grouchy.
Too bad. They did give me a couple of cool little photos.
Five days? What are you 72 feet tall?
Ate normally until day before, drank the Colon Blow Liquid Formula or whatever it’s called, then just water. I’ve fasted for up to a week with no issues, anyway, so it’s not like one day without food is so terrible.
It’s not that complicated, unless, apparently, your colon is long enough that it can reach to the moon and back.
These threads are why I really love FR.
OK, that’s weird.
You have fasted for a week? Who are you, John the Baptist??
I’ve only ever had the one day “chemical” cleansing.
I was spent after one day of cleansing and no eating. I was shaking like a dog passing a peach pit by the time it was over and I could eat.
This is the exact photo my doctor gave me from my colonoscopy. I’m suddenly suspicious...
It says right there on the paper: locusts and rainwater only.
Yeah, I thought maybe you were both the same person...
Man VS Wild last night. Bear Gryllis gave himself an enema wath nast water because he couldn’t keep it down otherwise.
I'm upset that beer isn't considered a clear liquid - I'd like to pound down a couple tonight.
Why risk grossing out his/her closest friends, when he/she can post anonymously here on FR?
The only risk is being the butt of all the jokes.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun)
Great minds, eh?
Nah, I was John the Fattest. I actually liked it, and am going again. Helped me lose 40 pounds I’d gained after and accident.
I only had to limit my diet the day before. The day of the prep just a clear diet(soups, drinks, jello, etc.)...no red gatorade or jello, though. They’ve made the prep so much easier...Miralax is so much better than the stuff they used to make you drink (magnesium citrate.)
Diet Before Colonoscopy Bowel Preparation
To have your colon ready for the procedure, your doctor will provide information regarding a diet before colonoscopy bowel preparation. It will require you to change your eating about four days before the procedure is performed. The diet reduces or totally eliminates fiber and will include food like:
Boiled chicken (no skin)
Steamed white fish
Some diets used to prepare patients for a colonoscopy call for the elimination of all solid food two days prior to the colonoscopy. This is a precautionary measure taken to make sure your bowels are empty. Another thing to consider when preparing for a colonoscopy is what supplements you take. If you take iron supplements, these must also be discontinued, even if it is an ingredient in your multi-vitamin.
Foods to Avoid
The following list of foods should not be eaten in the days leading up to your colonoscopy because they are high in fiber:
Liquids to Be Avoided
In preparation for a colonoscopy, your diet should include plenty of liquids. However, there a some that should be avoided:
Foods and beverages colored red or purple. Some doctors ask you to avoid orange colored dyes as well.
What to Eat the Day Before Your Colonoscopy
While the change you make to your diet prior to a colonoscopy starts three or four days prior the procedure, on the day before not only will you change what you eat, but how much. In fact, the only meal you should eat the day before your colonoscopy will be breakfast; and it should be light such as one soft boiled egg on one slice of white bread toast. Eating extremely light helps prepare your body for the effect of the laxative you’ll be given to totally clear your bowels before the procedure. With that said, it is also important that you include plenty of fluids in your diet the day before you go in for your colonoscopy, because the laxatives can promote dehydration. To avoid this problem make it a point to drink your fluids. It’s best to drink something every hour if possible. The liquids you can drink the day before include:
Coffee with nothing added
Strained fruit juices
Sports drinks such as Gatorade
Tea with nothing added
The Day of the Procedure
No food should be eaten the day of the procedure, and nothing at all should be taken between two or three hours before your colonoscopy.
I thought it was just certain vitamins and seeds and a few specific foods to be avoided for days beforehand, with the real diet within the last 24 hours.
And they showed that? Man, that show is really gone downhill.... I thought it was bad when he was naked a few seasons ago.
(anticipating table jokes)
Our minds momentarily melded.......LOL!
Why don’t you try it and see if they can tell the difference? You can report back to us at a later date! In the name of science!
Shouldn’t you have said, “risk being the *colon* of all the jokes”?
