I am leery of anything "free" on the internet

Then you must be paying for your browser program, yes? Nothing's free. Your eyeballs on Google ads pay (as one example) for things to the tune to of $24 billion Google Inc's revenue per annum. To quote Elvy Prezly "Thank you, thank you veddy much".

GF downloaded while kids were in Hungary and it worked Great.

Now it allows teenage boy to sit and stare at girlfriend.

What a great freebie!

Do you know if it is available everywhere? My son is in Djibuiti, Africa doing contract work at a base there. I would love to be able to talk to him.

We are in the "boonies" in the Ozarks. Not much out here. Only internet is satellite. I gave up my landline because of such terrible service and calls to my neighbor next farm over were long distance.

Love Skype ... I talk to my parents from Australia every day or so ... sometimes it’s jerky but that depends on your ISP provider ....

Skype is far better than some of the other available programs out there. The clarity is superior, and the programme utilises an effective echo-cancellation algorithm.

If you’re worried about privacy, simply set the appropriate settings, including making you disappear from the public search list, and make sure you’re prudent when setting up your profile. Link no currently-used numbers or addresses to it, and you should be safe.

As far as I know, Skype, Yahoo Chat and Google Voice are available wherever internet service is available.

Skype or Google Voice should permit you to have a phone number local to the area.

I use the video calls to talk to my son in Alaska and my brother in Iraq. It is great to be able to see them!
