Verizon to stop distributing printed white pages (I Hope This Is Nationwide)

Verizon will not be distributing its white pages directory to local residents for at least the next two years, the company said Tuesday.

Instead, residents will be able to find the directory online at www.verizon.com/whitepages . A printed and CD-ROM copy will also be available for free upon request.

Verizon subscribers will still receive printed directories for business yellow pages and government white pages, according to the company.

Florida's Public Service Commission granted Verizon Florida LLC the right to not hand out the directories to every customer for two years. Verizon had been looking for a permanent waiver because they have seen decreased demand for the residential white pages.

The temporary conclusion of distribution will begin in December, Verizon says.

The commission will look at consumer feedback after the two year period and then decide whether to continue the non-distribution.

I get loads of these things place on my front porch. They go directly to the trash. Such a waste.

Speak for yourself.

Some of us still use them.

Good move, I doubt very few people use them any more. We get at least four every six months or so from various directory printers and we trash all but one (and that we usually just keep for the pizza coupons.)

Sounds like this is just a change in residential listings, which I think are nice to have from time to time, but looks like we will still get multiple books for the yellow pages.

NO, NO, NO, NO !

I don’t care what anybody says about the Internet -

you try getting a fire going in the fireplace with the Internet! Now I’ll have to go out to the yard and hunt for leaves and twigs.

Same here. The “opt in” option is the way to go.

The only problem with the “opt-in” option is that the delivery guys do not speak/read english so they have no clue who not to deliver to.

From the article:

So you can still request one while the 99% of the rest us who throw ours in the garbage as soon as they arrive won't be bothered with them anymore.

Verizon subscribers will still receive printed directories for ... government white pages

Thank God! How else will the parasites know where to go to find Obama's Stash? I was starting to worry for them.

I still use them for phone numbers, scratch paper when I need to jot something down while talking on the phone and for scratching out numbers if I’ve already called once and were the wrong number.

For looking up telephone numbers and addresses,of course.

I also used them as boosters when my grandchildren were too small to reach the table comfortably.

It’s a generational thing.
