Hopped the fence at Fort Baker awhile back & explored those tunnels as well.
I love the history of that place and the views are out of this world.

I’ve got a 5 BILLION Mark postage stamp from Weimar. It’s the highest denomination that they printed. A week later Germany switched to the Renten-Mark, and the stamp became worthless.

On late 1923, the postage rate was changing daily, and in the last stages hourly. You could mail a letter in the morning with excess postage, only to have it delivered postage due the same afternoon. It’s my understanding that in the final weeks the Reichspost just gave up and delivered everything, whether it had postage or not.
