They bow down and pucker to the NY and CA media market-Yankees and Giants get prime time. Rays and Rangers get 1:30 PM ET- who the heck is watching TV at 1:30. Phillies and Reds get 5:30 PM ET - almost as bad.

Phillies have been in the playoffs the past several years, yet they still get squat as far as the broadcast time.

Oh, how cool!! We’re BIG Giants fan around here in the bootless household. Funny thing - when Buster flied out in the (?) 6th inning, I had a feeling he’d park one in the seats. Just one of those things.

I was at Game 5 of the 1989 NL Playoffs - saw the Giants win the pennant. It was SO exciting.

So happy for this young lady! Not bad for a bunch of (ahem) mercenaries. Matos musta confused the Giants with the Yankees. Don’t they ever learn?!

I am very BIG fan of the SF Giants, and yes even Barry Bonds (sigh!) I am also glad that Dave Rigetti is still with the Giants.

The best pure hitter in history.
He gets more INFIELD singles that most teams!

I love Ichiro. I'm actually a Yankee fan, but I gotta give respect to the greats, and Ichiro is one of the GREATS. Love his style. Love his quiet professionalism. A hitting machine.

I'm a rather tepid Yankee fan at this point in life, but my wife scored two luxury box tix to go to new Yankee stadium this year--against the M's. I didn't really appreciate Cliff Lee that night. He sent the Yanks down all night, but in a sort of boring way. But Ichiro? I was cheering for him! He'll be in Cooperstown one day I hope. He deserves it.

Not sure about “in history.” There have been some great hitters. I never saw Hornsby or Sisler or Gehrig play. I mean, you look at Gehrig’s numbers. Not just power. The average. The production. Insane stats. But Ichiro is a great hitter and run-scorer. He was a solid right fielder for a long time too, not sure how he is these days.

MLB also has postseason.tv which is a limited internet streaming video version of the playoffs. It uses static cameras you can pick to watch games.

It kinda sucks, but it’s still cheaper than paying for cable for one month, just for the playoffs.

.315 average, golden glove every year, all star every year, 200+ hit 10 years in a row (no one has done that ever.)

He and Griffey will be the first ones in the Hall. Edgar should be there, but there is a pox on DH players for some reason.
I was actually at the game where Edgar was honored. A street named for him, and the DH of the year award named after him.

All-star is meaningless. The hits are great. The glove is great. I'd vote him into Cooperstown. He's got speed. For the top of the lineup, he's great. But he's got no power. Someone has to drive him in.

Lou Gehrig was a 340 lifetime hitter, with 493 taters and 1995 RBIs. Ruth--342, 714, 2213. I could go on. Willie Mays. Ted Williams. A lot of better all-around hitters than Ichiro. Ichiro is hits, speed, and leather, but not much run production. And after all, it's runs that count. 90 career home runs? Gehrig had 1888 runs score. Ichiro has 1047. Perspective, son. Perspective.

Edgar should be there, but there is a pox on DH players for some reason.

And for good reason. Edgar was a great hitter for a while, and a certified Yankee killer. But get real. Al Oliver had numbers at least as good as Edgar, and he played a position, and no one is saying Al Oliver belongs in the Hall. I'm ok with players padding their stats in the late years DH-ing. Eddie Murray did it. Lotta guys do it. But a career DH? They belong in the Hall when middle relievers get in.

How many years did Gehrig play? Ichiro been there only 10 years. Take ALL his pro numbers (yes, including Japan) and see where he sits. I’d say he was pretty high.
Also, the position in the batting order is of vital importance. A lead off hitter is supposed to get on base, a clean up hitter is supposed to hit him around. With Ichiro on first, the pitcher has to concentrate on both Ichiro and the batter. That is Ichiro’s job, to hassle the pitcher. Hard to do that sitting on the bench after a homer.

Reggie did it, also. He’s in the Hall.
What I am saying is that for a DH, there was none better than Edgar. He defined the position.
