I was thinking the same thing, and I see that now Drudge is linking to a similar story advising Beck to avoid Diet Coke.

Thanks for the heads up on the Drudge link, looks like Infowars reads us here over at FR :)

Did your CFS go away or diminish after you stopped?

I'm not much into conspiracy stuff but Aspartame is at least sketchy, IMO.

I think ponygirl may be on to something (well...Drudge, too). There are certain things I just never ate or drank, because the first time I tried it, it was awful. That weird "perfume-like" taste of Diet anything was one of those "awful" experiences. I just knew it was bad for you, and didn't go back for more. I had a friend that drank so much soda...he peed blood. People with tendencies to obsessively do things in general, tend to obsess on things in general--like the Diet Coke consumption...and...you have the added benefit of caffeine there too. For someone that feels like "there isn't enough time" to do all the reading he wants to do...?

I still am a BIG fan of him getting more sunshine, too. Eat better--frickin' HIRE someone to make sure good stuff is in front of you, instead of bad stuff, walk (yah think he can't, because of having to have body guards, because people want to harm him?).

Well, what you said. And then there’s always slow arsenic poisoning (to be a bit conspiratorial).

We need more Becks to come forward, and he’s asked us to do our own research. H-E double hockey sticks, WE each need to be Beck. For our children. For the next generation. For the record.

I always knew I thought TR, for example, was a bit of an odd duck, along with Wilson & his ‘Presidential’ wife being off the chart ‘altruistic’ or some such. Let’s just say I’ve changed my mind a bit since learning about the infestation of the dark side they represent to America. They and their Progressive minions are spooky, vile dudes.

Well said.

Okay...HERE's a little story for yah (to inspire) ... Last night, while on my knees praying for Glenn and other prayers. I said to God, "What do you want me to know --I do this most every night and I turn to the page He tells me in my head to read. Oddly enough the passage EXACTLY deals with the issues of the day. I've never read the Bible before, so it's not as if I brought these passages up from memory). Last night He said "25" after my prayer. I thought page 25? Psalm 25?...and then, I just turned on the TV for some reason, before opening the Bible. I laughed to myself and turned to CHANNEL 25. ...and what was playing on TV???? "THE PATRIOT" ---nuf said ;-)

No, it didn't go away when I quit Diet Coke and other aspartame products, but I initially switched to regular sodas. I didn't really turn the corner until I quit drinking all of it and eating other crap I was eating.

Now if I try a diet drink, all I can taste is chemicals. It's strange, because when you get addicted to it, it tastes like the best thing in the world. But once you quit for a while (at least 6 months) and then taste it again, it's just nasty. You can't believe you used to drink the stuff several times a day. I also notice I'll get quickly dehydrated, my blood sugar goes wonky, my skin feels weird and itchy, and my kidneys react immediately. So I quit all sodas and juices at the beginning of this year. That, along with a combination of other things including SLEEP has finally helped.

I have an uncle who is diabetic and he drinks Diet Coke every day. He has a terrible time keeping his blood sugar under control… we've even had to call the ambulance in the middle of the night when he was down here visiting. And he also lost the vision in one eye. He's not overweight at all and never has been… he just drinks this diet stuff and will not give it up.

Glenn’s program today had a segment on the Drudge linked aspartame article - Stu and Pat slammed it:

People have different sensitivities to ingredients. It’d be a shame if he didn’t try to get the ingredient out of his system to see if there are any changes. I know I and other people can’t handle it.

The infowars website is blaming aspartame in diet coke.

Sure diet coke is addictive. You can get addicted to anything. But the most addictive element in diet coke is caffeine. Caffeine is VERY, VERY addictive, much more than aspartame, and diet coke has a lot of caffiene. And the caffeine can cause everything from fast or irregular heartbeats to high blood pressure, headaches, heart palpitations, to yes...even neurological issues. So a lot of what’s being blamed on aspartame and splenda may be caffeine-related. So we got to be careful and villify the right elements here.

And feed caffeine to certain animals and it will kill them or make them sick. Caffeine will kill ants and many other insects. And caffeine is in a LOT of our foods and drinks. Tea, coffee, soda...etc..

Im not saying aspartame is 100% safe. But Im saying that there are many other chemicals that we consume every day that could be causing us problems.

And your belief that because fat people have diet coke in their shopping cart is proof of diet coke causing health problems is a classic example of how correlation does not equal causation. Don’t you think it is possible that a fat person would want to lose weight and therefore have more diet products in their shopping cart?
Just like people who say video games cause violence. Isnt it possible that simply violent people are attracted violent video games?

Again, be careful. Correlation does not equal causation.

I agree with you. I was just saying that for me, personally, sodas were addictive and diet sodas particularly so. I still drink coffee and I will occasionally give up coffee entirely. I always get a massive headache that lasts for about two days, and then it's out of my system and over with and I can stay off it for several weeks at a time. When I start drinking it again, it doesn't make my skin itch or make me have to pee every ten minutes, and my kidneys don't ache. Is all of that caused by aspartame or some other substance in sodas? I don't know. I have not had the same reaction to sugarless gum, but other people here are claiming that they do. I think it depends on the individual's sensitivities and the amount being consumed.

As far as the very obese drinking the stuff by the gallon, I was just saying I noticed the coincidence. Paired with things I've been reading that suggest that aspartame makes you crave sweets even more, I'm only hypothesizing.

A chemical within the aspartame is very bad for certain people that have a certain gene. It’s about 1 in 10,000 people have it. It can cause numerous problems from neurological to kidney to intestinal. Other people may be just more sensitive to it.

As far as the sweets thing. That may be true. A pharmacist once told me people who are diabetic or on insulin tend to crave sweets more than the average person. And he said the reason is because the brain has sensors that detect the amount of glucose in the blood. Insulin causes a drop in glucose in the blood and that leads to the brain thinking the body is low on sugar and the person will then crave it.

What you do with sugar substitutes, if you consume a lot of it and replace regular sugar, the brain will see it as a drop in glucose and you may crave the sugar even more. So that is definitely possible.
