They’re talking about the John Nathan Turner era.

I would think they could have considered a Rastafarian type of bloke, in an English style of course. For instance the character that was assisting James Bond in the movie where he battles the bad guy in a fencing academy.
But a female Doctor Who? maybe it would work, in Britain at least such things happen, look at Margaret Thatcher and of course the Royals.
But it won’t capivate the American audience, especially when the nation is about to nominate a woman for POTUS, too much of a sticky wicket so to speak.
Or...it could be a catalyst against Obama.

If she looks like Jeri Ryan, I'll definitely be watching!

When it was announced Tennet was leaving the show, I posted here the new Doctor should be female. The only rules are the Doctor must speak with a UK accent, and do quirky well. Accordingly, my recommendation was Jane Horrocks. I think she would have been terrific in the role. She has the range to play a female Prime Minister of England in a straight role, and also portray Bubbles in AbFab.

You do what you can in the attempt to keep an audience. It doesnt always work. He should have a baby, let Cousin Oliver visit for an extended period, and stage a ski jump over a shark.
