Skip to comments.Obama: No shame over shovel-ready sham
Posted on 10/17/2010 1:08:31 AM PDT by ransomnote
Back in early 2009, President-elect Barack Obama was asked on Meet the Press how quickly he could create jobs. Oh, very fast, he said. Hed already consulted with a gaggle of governors, and all of them have projects that are shovel-ready. When Obama revealed the members of his energy team, he explained that they were part of his effort to get started on shovel-ready projects all across the country. When he unveiled his education secretary, he assured everyone that he was going to get started helping states and local governments with shovel-ready projects.
In interviews, job summits and press conferences, it was shovel-ready this, shovel-ready that. Search the White House Web site for the term shovel-ready and youll drown in press releases about all the shovels ready to shove shovel-ready projects into the 21st century, where no shovel is left behind.

Everything this lying piece of garbage has been a sham. He is responsible for the bad economy.
Obama didn’t realize the term ‘shovel-ready’ would soon be affixed to his term in office.

Yesterday’s walkaround for Christine O’Donnell was enlightening, although somewhat disappointing. Given that we were in an area around UD, we expected little support. What was a surprise was the level of approval for 0bambi. These people actually wanted higher taxes, more spending and “It’s all Bush’s fault”.
Wow, Liberalism is truly a mental disorder.
BTW, Christine can use help on her phone banks. You can do it from home, especially if you are out of state. Thanks for all your support.
He’s our shovel ready President and we all know what we are shoveling...
he lied in everything he tried to sell...everything! stimilus is needed so that unemployment wont go above 8%. Obamacare will cut cost and deficit
he will sell cap and trade as something that will reduce energy bills.
We have a complete amateur in the Oval Office, who has no vision for going forward, or who understands what he has done in the last nineteen months or so. He is adolescent in his understanding of reality, knows nothing of the American people and their desires or trials, and even worse cares nothing about them.
He is completely self-absorbed, and has not the first inkling of what leadership means or entails. The levers of power have been placed into his hands, and he has not the slightest concept what their purpose is, other than he wants their manipulation to bring him acclaim, glory and the fulfillment of his adolescent dreams. This is why he admits to misrepresentation as an excuse for failure. Truly frightening indeed. He has no orientation, except his own glory and avoidance of admitting failure in a meaningful way. He is incapable of learning from mistakes, because he is incapable of self-examination!
His connection to power is his public speaking, and that is it! period!
Those who guided his ascend behind the scenes, by money, manipulation, and power relationships are indeed the real criminals in this debacle.JMHO
I would wager that if and when the paper trail is sorted out, it will be shown that billions of taxpayer dollars have been shovelled out the door to cronies, crooks, fellow travellers, and assorted other people. Considering the scale and scope of this rip-off, shovels will do, but forklifts would probably be a more efficient means of off-loading the treasury...
That’s ‘The Chicago Way’.
Just what Reagan said -- liberals don't lie. They just know so much that isn't so.
And he has no remorse for being incompetent. No shame over being a caught-out liar. No embarassment over being a thoroughly self-aborbed narcissist.
He only has a feeling that the majority of the U.S. just 'doesn't get it.' -- 'it' being the brilliance of his agenda. 0 thinks the problems are communication and PR (and, in his little pinchy-fingered ranting, that most of the U.S. is just too stupid to comprehend).
He is more aware of how entitled he is, than of how the public views his deceptions.
“Its not that Obama was lying when he said all that stuff. Its just that he didnt know what he was talking about.”
It it time yet to say that Obama is stupid or just ignorant of the normal operation of American business. (Hint: I knew he was ignorant before he was elected!).
Or both. Then there's his racism. That became clear when he assumed his friend in Cambridge, MA was correct (over a year ago) and the policeman acted out of prejudice.
I am not surprised.
Actually probably right. I have long doubted his intelligence and his racism is a given (Although not admitted by the MSM or any others for obvious reasons).
He has skated all of his life (probably for racial reasons), and now that he has to use some intelligence and or common sense, it seems to be lacking...
Bush made him say it.
Pretty well sums it up, J. I do not think anyone should be elected to Pres under the age of 50; 30, 40 year olds are still too self absorbed and lack life experience such as consequences to actions. Takes a while for this to set in! Now, Obama may NEVER overcome the self absorbed deal; he ain’t too sharp to figure it out.
They want higher taxes on someone else!
This will make Ed Shultz’s mouth water.
“We won’t be fooled again”
At least Obama will be leaving some legacy, everything he was is what America will never vote for again.
We may just needed to be pushed to a precipice in order that we can truly appreciate right from wrong, and Obama was very, very wrong for America.
Make that trillions. He is the peak of a criminal pyramid.
Two more weeks, Obambi...
Then you can shovel your administration
The only thing ever shovel-ready from this ignoramus was all the BS he was shoveling!
nobama and his ilk have no reason for “shame”. Shame implies that the situation was a mistake and there are regrets. nobama and his minions PLANNED to do what they are doing. They are anti-America, anti-Freedom and anti-humanity. Pox on them all. VOTE!
“he lied in everything he tried to sell...everything! stimilus is needed so that unemployment wont go above 8%. Obamacare will cut cost and deficit”
Whose cost and deficit??? Certainly not mine!!!
Just checked my pay stub: health insurance is now costing me $300 more a month! That’s $3,600 more a year!!! Like I can afford that now with 2 kids in college?!?!?
Most liberals lead such an isolated, insulated life (like Obama) that they really believe because they have millions of dollars to spend, everyone else does, too!
Obama is a fool. He is a Marxist tool. He is an idiot of the nth degree. What a jerk-off!!!
That is as accurate and succinct an analysis of the situation as ever I’ve read. It could have been written by Dinesh D’Souza or Charles Krauthammer. Well written.
NO shame is apparently a personality trait of narcissists.
Hussein doesn’t care that he LIED to America. He is an epic failure, and yet doesn’t care. Hussein’s desire was best expressed by his good friend John Dingell—he just wants “to control the people”.
Oh, he was shoveling lots of it.
You are exactly right. He knows that his lies will eventually be exposed but he is counting on the power he has ammassed to get away with them. We had better PRAY that he has overestimated his power and underestimated the will of the American people to remain free.
Anyway, Obama is about to start doing the only thing he has experience at, and that is campaigning. Only this time, it's not campaigning for the next higher job but for the job he already has and has done quite poorly for the past few years.
All these starry-eyed losers who kept electing Obama to higher and higher positions in the government, taking no note whatsoever of the lack of performance in the job Obama currently held. They were just bound and determined to make this very effeminate and unqualified man the next U.S. president because, well, it was just so cool to have a reputed black guy in the Oval Office along with his scowling, pretend-wife. However, in their enthusiasm to elect the first black president, they forgot to find one that was actually qualified for the job (and sadly, they are out there, but were ignored in favor of this empty suit).
Maybe somebody like Clarence Thomas can be our first REAL black president.
OK, so Obama still doesn’t get it. But then I’m still trying to figure out what he meant.
No such thing as shovel-ready jobs: public works projects tend to go to people who already have jobs...including (gasp!) white men, as Robert Reich observed.
They tend to consume more in taxes than they produce in benefit, regarding the Goldberg’s LA County example of $111 million to “save” 55 jobs. I would agree that graft would almost have to be involved there. Also publicity is expensive, in regards to the sign example. But if this is what he meant, I would say that he is coming close to getting it.
Possibly he meant that it takes some time for projects to get approved and all, but if that’s what he meant, he would have spun it differently. He seems to be admitting that unemployment will not be decreasing any time soon.
I’ve said all along that people confused his ability to speak well,to deliver his lines, from a teleprompter, with intelligence. He really is not the sharpest tool in the shed. His selection of the mentally deficient Biden as veep was another clue. Why go so far down the IQ scale if he wasn’t afraid of being shown up?
So in at least one case, the funding of shovel-ready projects was not a sham. I doubt that I live in the only town in America that benefited in this way.
I hope it collapses.
Structures paid for with stolen money cannot stand.
The only shovel-ready project is 0b0z0, his communist Chicago thugs and the RAT party.
I think that the American people will object to funding it.
I think that the American people will object to funding it.
I think that the American people will NOT object to funding it.
Do you hope that all the structures associated with the interstate highway system will collapse because they were built with “stolen money”?
>>Just what Reagan said -- liberals don't lie. They just know so much that isn't so.
This is generally the theme of Thomas Sowell's book, The Vision of the Anointed. Published in 1996, it really points up how impervious the Liberal mind is to rational thought and learning via empirical results. I've just started it and the clarity of insight is astounding.
Read "Patterns of Failure" here and see if you don't see this Stimulus episode as yet another case of the general schema that Sowell has laid out.
Thanks for the encouragement, it is much appreciated.
Wow...thanks for the link. I am really enjoying reading the excerpt and I am a Sowell fan anyway. It is dead on accurate.
Most college/university students today have been nurtured with with other people’s sweat and labor a la money. Don’t expect much more than demands by them until they find out someone is trying to get the easy life by their time and money. Not arguing that all students have an easy life but that in todays world many students just going for the life support of others.
The only shovel ready stuff went to unions and now the people are going to shovel out the govenors and others who stood with Obama on this poop.
I am in CA too.
I remember when, just after the Stimulus passed and ‘shovel-ready’ projects were said to have their kick off, a friend of mine drove from Lake Tahoe to Lawrence Kansas. The trip took twice as long as it normally would because there was road construction slow downs literally every 15 miles. My friend and her family would crawl through miles of road construction, reach the other side and speed up before hitting, in 10 - 15 miles, another road construction crew. This occurred the entire distance shortly after Lake Tahoe and then all the way to Lawrence Kansas. Numerous Stimulus signs dotted the roadway. My friend and her husband, computer and math geeks, estimated that the US could not have relocated every piece of road equipment to one corridor - regardless of shovel ready bragging rights. No, they deduced that the US had to have outsourced equipment and crews to foreigners in order to sustain, long term, that kind of construction. I wonder if we were able to ‘stimulate’ growth in outsourced companies?
I just spent a couple hours lazing on a beautiful hotel pool deck in NOLA (yeah, life if rough) and read another chapter or two. You need to read this book, is all I have to say. The whole book is just dead on accurate, again and again and again. It just destroys Liberal shibboleth after Liberal shibboleth.
Update on the address to help Christine on the phone banks.
Thanks again for everybody’s help.
