This was intended for your original question, stillafreemind.

Free Republic began life as a traditional bulletin board in the earliest days of the internet, on a usenet, I think the term was, I forget which one. Early nineties time-frame.

FR itself was established in 1996 after JimRob became dis-satisfied with it’s former home. He kept it as close as possible to the former bulletin board format. FR still retains the basic look and feel of the original.

Thanks. I think I first started reading Free Republic in 1997 with my old webtv. My mom is an avid reader here, at age 77 she forwards at least a couple of FreeRepublic articles a day to her email buddies. Neither of us post that much.

I remember the days before the copyright thing got nasty. All in all FreeRepublic is a great source for news. That being said..there are reasons that I do like using AssociatedContent from Yahoo. I like the fact that I can make it all 1 page instead of flipping it over. Whatever I feel in the mood for..I read.

Most stuff, unless it’s opinion, is sourced. I have about 15 people that I read over there and each for different reasons.

Like I said..I don’t mean to step on people’s toes..I love FreeRepublic. But, if it cost Yahoo that much money to buy it..it must be halfway decent.
