It was a strange weekend for violent animal stories. You have this barracuda story. Meanwhile, in the Cuyamacas east of San Diego, a fellow died from a rattlesnake bite, and in the Olympics, a hiker was killed by a mountain goat. Very odd.
I dove often in South Fla and ran into any number of Barracuda. They usually just look at you and swim off. I often swam towards them and could never get closer than where I started from. It’s amazing how dexterous they are, how effortlessly they move. Beautiful fish, but damned mean looking teeth.
If she’s anything like my ex, she had 50 keys and assorted keychains and a couple of Vera Bradley wallets and coin purses hanging off that central core key chain. She’ll be okay, no animal could bite through those keys...

Which pocket were the keys in?
“I got bitten in the Islands once and it wasn’t funny”.
Next time, wear a Speedo and don’t expose your “islands”. Just a thought.
They don’t have much fear either - I don’t think they have much in the way of natural predators coming after them.
I’ve had them follow me like curious puppy dogs. That’s just a peculiar feeling - look back, big toothy fish back there - swim a 50 yards, look back, still right there.
You’re not supposed to wear shiny jewerly, watches, etc so they not induced to snap at it. But most second-stage regulators (you know the one, right on top of the tank near the back of your neck - are extremely ‘shiny’)
