Now that the election is over and the republicans have rode a tsunami of patriotic voter discontent into control of the House of Representatives, the first order of business for the new wave of conservatives and patriots should be to find a new leader for the loyal opposition in the House.
The battle may have been won friends, but the war is now just beginning. The House in the next congress is going to face enormous pressure from the combined forces of the still nominally democrat-controlled Senate, the dedicated Marxist Obama and the executive branch, and their staunch allies in the predominant leftist media.
To put it directly and bluntly, John Boehner simply does not have the charisma, the media savvy, the backbone, the conservative principles, or quite frankly the intellectual heft that is going to be necessary for this very difficult fight. He is and has always been a deal maker and an accommodator, which is the absolute last thing that America needs right now.
Obama has directly stated that the next two years would be "political hand-to-hand combat", and Boehner is not the man to lead conservatives in this most critical stage of the war. I would personally throw out the names of Mike Pence and Paul Ryan as just two men that can represent us far better. I would welcome other suggestions as well, but I hope that one of these two men will rise to the challenge and step up to the leadership mantle where he belongs.
I say, instead of eating our own we should give John a chance.
Amen
Put him on notice, but give him a chance.
Is he going to get rid of the jet? That would be a powerful signal of intent.
I say he’s earned the chance to lead. He’s kept the GOP caucus together when it would have been very easy for members to want to get on the O train. Now, just because he was good at opposition, doesn’t mean he’ll be a good leader, but he deserves the chance.
I want a tiger in there. Some one as nasty as Pelosi, without an ounce of compromise. Someone who will punch back and win.
I say that I very much like Boehner. The comment about his tan sounds like what I have heard Democrats say.....a sort of superficial low blow. I like Pence and Ryan but have NO problem with Boehner and think he definitely has the charisma to be the House leader. .
I agree, but there can be NO sign of squish or weakness. I want to see visible conservatism, and for gawd’s sake, don’t ever use the words “compromise”, “reach across” or “our friends across the aisle” or I swear, John, I will mail you what comes out of my mouth.
I agree with you completely. In my opinion, Boehner has already had more than a sufficient change to lead, and I believe he has failed us conservatives miserably. The last several years have been nothing short of a disaster for the country.
I say if we start acting like Democrats with this infighting bulls**t and people concerned with inside baseball crap instead of simply going forward and giving people a chance before we start firing them, the dems will take back the house in 2012.
Boehner is the back room slugger we need.
i would for for the gop senate leader first to be honest. The fact that we didn’t win senate majority and he failed in helping us get that, he should be removed from leadership
Couldn’t agree more.
Never happen.
Next two years will be a lot easier for you if you remember “stupid party”.
Will never happen.
And cross Pence off your list. He’s already stated he doesn’t want a leadership position and plans on stepping down from his current one.

Got to keep Boehner,,,give him a chance to get even with Pelosi,,,He deserves our support.
Right on. Besides, I have other things I want Paul Ryan focused on instead of herding cats and counting votes.
Boehner sounds like he understands what the mandate is, and I do not think it will be business as usual. I think we owe him a chance as Speaker, considering he had a great deal to do with everyone’s Victory last night.
Couldn’t agree more.
Never happen.
Next 2 years will be easier on you if you remember “stupid party”.
Boehner is a nice humble man.
But not the leader we need to deal with the kenyan marxist and his appointed politburo of czars. Not to mention that weasel jackwagon Harry Reid.
He didn't give us O'Donnell. Conservatives need to support serious candidates with serious resumes. It's not enough to look cute in red.
How about we let him do his job?
Rep. Lynn Westmoreland Eyes Government Shutdown
Westmoreland said his caucus presuming it takes control of the House come November aims to pass spending bills that Obama is likely to veto. He predicted Republicans would not be able to override such a veto, creating a standoff that could cause Congress to grind to a halt.
We have put Band-Aids on some things that need to be cleaned out, he said. "That is going to take some pain. Theres going to have to be some pain for us to do some things that weve got to do to right the ship."
I like it! He’s exactly right, and that’s the sort of stuff I’m looking for.
Boehner now says that we have to understand that the President sets the nation’s agenda, and that the message of last night is that he should change course.
Doesn’t sound like a leader to me. Sounds like a follower.
Well, DUH!!! The Democrats have been in charge for the last 4 years. Do you think that MAY have something to do with it? It is sort of difficult to win your way in Congress when you don't have the votes. Geez!
The fact you didn't demonstrates you don't know much about Republicans.
So, no, just because a guy looks like he's tanned ~ he was the leader during this election when the House Of Representatives went over to the Republicans.
His first concerns were the fact the Democrats neglected to pass a budget this year (with 13 major appropriations bills left hanging).
I think he has a plan ~ Obama's head is going to pop when he sees it, and the House has all the power in this one.
If anyone needs the boot in the current leadership it’s Eric Cantor. He’s arrogant, went around with Romney on his “listening tour” last year where they did all the talking, pushing Romney Care as a viable health care solution. He is not a loyal limited government conservative and has no business being the majority leader, unless of course you want statist Republicans running everything.
Obviously this meant a lot to Boehner. Give him the opportunity.
This election proved we haven’t been right on on all of our choices.
We need to be tough, but we also need to resist being thugs and bullies.
I’m sorry, but Jospeh Goebbles is not available.
You would throw away a long-serving respected member with a 96% ACU rating for someone with no proven ability in leadership?
What are you thinking.... or drinking ?
We may as well get used to being disappointed these next couple of years, because we're going to get stabbed in the back and steamrolled over again and again and again.
He should fly on regularly scheduled commercial flights.
If I hear one more thing about his tan I will scream!!! Believe it or not, there are some skin conditions which are alleviated by tanning. Do you know for sure he does not have a medical problem or do you just go along with what the media says? BTW, my mom is italian, she can get a tan walking to the mailbox, so what?
He is one of 12 kids, whose family owns a bar, the only one who went to college, worked his way through school, got a job and became President of that company! I have not read where he is awarding contracts to his family members to make them rich, either.
Give him a chance!
You are a dullard!
A good opening move would be the re-abolition of the racist Black Caucus and ouster of the two criminals under a cloud of guilt.
Let’s see if he follows through on his promises to support Issa’s investigations. If he starts talking like Bush on the Clinton’s malfeasance the party’s over.
I say that's a cheap shot. Ever see pictures of Boehner's mother? She wasn't exactly lily white.
More importantly, tell me why you would want to toss the man who managed to hold together the House GOP during the Obamamania tide and then bring them back to a majority within two years. How does that make sense?
You might have noticed that the entire State of Ohio went red last night, a state that Brak absolutely needs to carry if he wants to be re-elected. Doncha think tossing the newly-victorious Speaker-Elect might send a less than friendly message to the Ohio electorate?
Like it or not he deserves the opportunity (seniority thing)
I gotta give him credit for fighting the good fight against obummercare.
Paranoia and depression are treatable conditions. Suggest seeing your health care professional.
In a word, no.
Not sure about the jet. Maybe one of the smaller executive sized would be better.
After all, Speaker of the House is 3rd in line for the Presidency in the event the POTUS and the VPOTUS get taken out.
He is exactly correct. More power to him. But from the outset they have to educate the public to the fact that if a shutdown comes it’s the President, not the House that is doing the shutting down! It’s been a decade plus, but we must not forget the lessons we should have learned when they let Clinton pin the blame on them for shutting down government.
No! John Boehner is not what you naysayers seem to think he is.I want him to be speaker.
Who was it recently (A Republican) that Rush completely took apart? Was it Boehner or Issa? I can’t recall who now, but Rush was steaming and I recall this same Senator on Hannity and he completely changed his tune since being read the riot act by Rush.
I think we did pretty darn good.
John Boehner knows how to wrangle through the spaghetti bowl of rules in Congress. That is an absolute necessity to get anything done. Nasty Pelosi was quite accomplished in that regard. Now that Republicans are in the majority, Boehner won't be encumbered by Democratic caucus pressure.
Liberals succeed because the know how to present a unified front. They also know how easy it is to stir up infighting among the Republicans. (a good example is this very thread) He has earned his wings; now is the time to let him pilot the plane. (I promise to eat my words in a public way if Boehner turns out to be anything like a John McCain or Lindsey Graham.)
That was Darrell Issa.
He needs no 'on the job training'....and this is good because things are gonna get real hot real quick!
Save the stars like Ryan, Bachman and Company for the public-face jobs.
We've got a great team and a deep bench right now. Each to what he knows and does best....Ryan for financial policy, for example.
Leni
Boehner’s done a tremendous job and deserves the credit. He’s proven and his whips will do wonders.
There will be compromise, that’s the nature of a republic, but we want it to be their compromise, not ours.
Let’s not create absurd expectations. We need to govern well and the voters will reward us.
First item on the agenda - jobs, which need stability to get them generated.
