Depends on what we mean by West. If it meant Indiana, which it frequently did in those days, yup, there were trains. Still, the plagues I mentioned happened in from 1854 to 1929, as did the trains.

In 1850 we had some Family in Illinois, Cairo, some sill there, from what I understand, no orphan trains, no rail road either, we left NY in 1830.

From what I understand, those of us that did Wagons West, picked up the strays and raised them as our own life was hard.
