Two Great Movies to See on Netflix Before Veterans' Day
Netflix ^ | November 7, 2010 | vanity

Posted on 11/07/2010 9:30:07 PM PST by Choose Ye This Day

Just a heads up, if you have Netflix, there are two must-see documentaries that are soon expiring from the Instant View list.

The first is Medal of Honor, and it gives good historical background on this medal and it includes some inspiring interviews with brave men who have earned it.

The second is The Way We Get By, about the group of senior citizens in Bangor, Maine that greet EVERY flight of soldiers, Marines, airmen, etc., returning Stateside from the war on terror.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Military/Veterans
KEYWORDS: documentary; military; netflix; veterans
Watch 'em both if you can. They're both dropping off the Instant View list this week.

As the son of a French-Canadian mother, I’ve spent many days and weeks in Bangor. Those people are the finest kinds of Americans.

That’s one part of the country I’ve never been to—Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire. But if these good folks in the movie are representative of Bangor, it has to be a wonderful place to live.

My son has benefited from the people of Bangor. Thank God for them. I agree with the son of the French-Canadian mother—they are finest of people.

It’s a great place to live. Not very affluent, actually much like West Virginia, but populated by some of the finest people I’ve ever met.

If your eyes stay dry through either of these movies, you’ve got a plumbing problem.

If you watch either of them, post back here and let me know what you think.

Try the “oscar snubbed” movie produced by Gary Sinise “Brothers at War” about real-life brothers serving in Iraq. Add “Saving Private Ryan’ and ....First Blood.

Why Rambo: First Blood? Stallone’s last 10 minute rant while surrounded by cops. Told it like it is: liberals spitting on soldiers when they came back from Vietnam, calling them “baby killers”.

Let me add “Taking Chance” to your 2 movies. A wonderful movie that gives a very different perspective on the WoT.

Let me add:

The Big Red One - Finest war movie made up to Band of Brothers

The Red Badge of Courage - Fine story starring two genuine WW2 heros.

I was in Atlanta changing planes one day a few years ago and the USO group there would escort the returning troops from their gate to the USO, baggage pickup or the next gate.

They would announce over the Public Address system, asking everyone to please stand and welcome the troops. It was amazing to see everyone stop walking and start applauding our Men and Women.

I flew home from a trip out of Bangor once and got to not only see these folks in action but they allowed me to join them to greet a group coming home. It was awesome! I emptied the airport gift shop of cigars and handed them out to the returning heroes.

What an experience!

I just signed up for Netflix today and I was browsing the documentaries; 5 of the top 13 in that category are produced by “michael moore”. Maybe I will cancel Netflix after my free 30 day trial is over...

That would be a huge mistake, but suit yourself. There are scores of great documentaries on there.
