Close shave for wife killer
Boston Herald ^ | 11/8/10 | Laurel J. Sweet

Posted on 11/07/2010 9:43:52 PM PST by raccoonradio

A transsexual convicted killer suing the Department of Correction to have taxpayers pay for a new round of electrolysis and a sex-change operation doesn’t have any hair issues that couldn’t be resolved by more razor work and heavier makeup, the chairman of the prison system’s Gender Identity Disorder Treatment Committee claims in a newly filed court document.

“I believe that her opinion that if she didn’t shave for a week she’d have a full beard (like mine as she indicated) is a serious distortion. It is my opinion that a reasonable accommodation to address this inmate’s concern would be to allow the inmate to shave more frequently (twice daily) and to allow the use of cosmetics to further feminize her appearance,” Dr. Robert B. Diener wrote of Robert “Michelle” Kosilek in a report filed last week in U.S. District Court in Boston.

Chief Judge Mark L. Wolf has twice refused to order DOC to restart permanent hair-removal treatments for Kosilek, which DOC contends fell short of their desired effect in the past.

Kosilek, 61, formerly of Mansfield, was born male but is living and dressing as a woman while on hormones at the all-male MCI-Norfolk state prison, where he is serving life for the 1990 strangulation of his 36-year-old wife Cheryl Kosilek.

Diener, chief psychiatrist for DOC’s mental health service provider, “is not an independent expert,” Kosilek’s attorney, Frances Cohen, told the Herald yesterday. “He is a psychiatrist. He has no knowledge of electrolysis.”

Kosilek, who has been waiting 10 years for Wolf’s decision on his sex-change suit and who claims in court filings he has attempted both suicide and self-castration in his despair, “has informed the court that in her view the record is closed and she’s ready for a decision,” Cohen said.

DOC spokeswoman Diane Wiffin said the department does not comment on pending litigation.

My big question is why does the corrections department have a “Gender Identity Disorder Treatment Committee?” You have to be bullsh*tting me!! Is someone trying to get me to move overseas?!

Massachusetts... http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/4687066-crossdressing-wife-killer-wants-sexy-legs >>Born as Robert Kosilek, Michelle Kosilek has been waiting for years for a judge in Boston to rule on a request for a taxpayer-funded sex-change operation in order to complete the prisoner's transformation into a woman. In order to permanently remove hair from his legs and other undesirable parts of his body, he wants electrolysis treatments and doesn't plan to pay a red cent towards the bill. If he can't get the hormonal treatments to change genders, he says he will be happy for the time being with the electrolysis. He has had seven electrolysis treatments at tax-payers' expense in the past years before they were discontinued last month. Poor humiliated gay convict, he has to endure walking around with hairy legs while people on the outside of prison wonder where their next meal will come from.

>>Once an addiction counselor, Kosilek was convicted of killing of his wife. He dumped the body in a car outside a local shopping mall and went missing. Kosilek was ultimately captured in New Rochelle, NY. In 1993, while in prison, he legally changed his name to Michelle. "Michelle" sued the State of Massachusetts sued the state twice in recent years to get the funds for his gender reassignment operation. Discovering he is beat and won't get sympathy or aid from anyone, he has now threatened to kill himself if no one caves in to his arrogant request. >>Perhaps, Ms. Michelle, when you killed your wife because she supposively poured boiling water on your genitals, she should have poured acid on them instead. Then, we wouldn't be discussing this ludicrous story! Massachusetts Correction Commissioner KathleenKathleen Dennehy has said that if Kosilek has the surgery, prison officials believe Kosilek could end up being a target of sexual assault in prison. She reiterates that if given his way, it would be a huge safety and security concern (housing a male that's turning into a female would be absurd and profound). The bold and ridiculous request would cost taxpayers much more than just money as the case would open up a breach in penal sanctions. Imprisonment would be completely redefined, in a time where law abiding citizens grapple with basic necessities and economic oppression. >>It is estimated that sex-change operations are in the $10,000 to $20,000 range. Sen. Bruce E. Tarr of Gloucester, Mass., has filed legislation barring the state from paying for the “sex reassignment” surgeries.

He claimed that his wife poured hot tea on his genitals and hence her killing (he wrapped a wire around her throat) was ‘self defense’. The jury didn’t buy it.

“Michelle’s case is being watched by other transgender inmates. No other transgender has successfully sued their state to cover the cost of sex change surgery.”

Inmate suicide raises concerns for Kosilek
Lawyers for a transgender killer from Mansfield say there are weaknesses in system that could result in another death

BOSTON - The apparent prison suicide of a cross-dressing dermatologist has exposed weaknesses in the state’s ability to prevent inmates from killing themselves, according to lawyers for a transgender convicted killer from Mansfield who has been waiting for years for a judge to rule on a request to have a sex-change operation.

Michelle Kosilek, who has said she feels distressed “every waking moment” as a woman trapped inside a man’s body, is housed in the same prison where Dr. Richard Sharpe was found hanging by a bed sheet from the top bunk last week.

Sharpe was serving a life sentence in the prison in Norfolk for killing his wife in 2000.

Kosilek, as Robert Kosilek, was convicted of murdering his wife in 1990 in their Mansfield condominium, then dumping her body at Emerald Square mall in North Attleboro. Kosilek, who was sentenced to life in prison, legally changed her name to Michelle in 1993, and has been living as a woman in the all-male lockup.

Frances Cohen, one of Kosilek’s lawyers, said Tuesday that she is concerned Sharpe found a way to commit suicide inside his cell. “The Department of Correction has consistently taken the position that they have in place adequate suicide prevention policies, and the Sharpe case shows that may not be the case,” Cohen said.

Kosilek is suing the DOC in federal court, seeking to force prison officials to arrange her sex-reassignment surgery. A trial began in May 2006, but Judge Mark Wolf has yet to issue his ruling.

Kosilek testified at the trial that she suffered from depression and had twice tried to commit suicide.

She also sent a handwritten letter to Wolf in October, saying, “no one but me truly knows the depth of my despair.”

“This pain is intimately destructive,” Kosilek wrote.

(Note: Due to his strangulation of her, Mrs. Kosilek
feels no pain at all.)

hmm, note a now familiar name...

>>“They are prisoners. They are there because they’ve broken the law,” said Republican state Sen. Scott Brown, who unsuccessfully introduced a bill to ban sex-change surgery for inmates. “Other folks, people who want to get these types of surgeries, they have to go through their insurance carrier or save up for it and do it independently. Yet if you are in prison, you can do it for nothing? That doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Don’t the libs believe everybody has a fundamental “right to die” at a time of their choosing? Especially if they are in severe pain?

That first article was wrong about the destination of the ‘hot tea’:

“Look, I had a fifteen year old son and a wife. I can’t call my wife. I murdered my wife. Now, I need to call a psychiatrist now.” SNIP
About two and one-half years later, in October of 1992, the defendant gave a series of recorded interviews to a television news reporter. An audiotape recording of one of the interview sessions was played for the jury. During the interview, the defendant stated that: on the day of the murder, he and the victim had been in an argument; the victim threw boiling tea into the defendant’s face; he then knocked the victim down; she grabbed a butcher knife and chased the defendant into another room, threatening to kill him; he picked up a piece of wire that had been on a table; and this was all he was able to recall until he woke up days later in the hospital. The defendant stated in the interview that he “probably, because of the trauma of it . . . went into a black out at that moment.” He also said, “Apparently, I did take her life. It was probably in self-defense.”

Transgender Killer Tells Massachusetts Taxpayers to Put Mammogram on Her Tab
Posted by Caroline Black 16 comments

Robert Kosilek, left, Michelle Kosilek, right (CBS/AP)
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - The transgender inmate formerly known as Robert Kosilek has made yet another unconventional request from behind bars...for a mammogram.

Massachusetts corrections officials, already under fire for the transgender inmate’s taxpayer-funded hormone treatments, now face criticism for providing Kosilek, who now calls herself Michelle, with a mammogram,
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20002851-504083.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody

“If a mammogram is recommended by a physician for a male inmate, one would be provided where medically appropriate, as determined by the DOC’s medical service provider.””

What scares me is getting in a traffic dispute with a guy holding a loaded .357 on the way to his chosen location of suicide.

Screw the rest, You give the state the power to allow inmates the “right” to suicide, you give the state the right to “suicide” anyone in their custody.

Hitler started with the imbecile. Then the criminals...

Then anyone who messed with him.

This is a joke, right...?

Kosilek is a cold blooded killer.

His wife suffered a cruel death. Being strangled with a wire is not a pleasant way to go.

All the treatment he deserves is to give him a wire with which to hang himself in his cell with.

You make a good point about preventing inmate suicide. I never realized the danger of letting it become common, so that murders by other inmates or employees could be covered up. I always appreciate getting insights like that on an issue.

Similarly, I never had a good opinion of defense lawyers until I realized that without them, we’d have a police state. I have a lot of respect for police but we can’t let them have too much power, or there would be a lot of corruption.

“Inconvenient” prisoners already die in custody on a semi-regular basis. Jim McDougal, Kenneth Trentadue, etc. I bet you could find a dozen more on the Clinton body count lists.

How much prodding from a corrupt deputy do the animals in jail need before they kill another inmate? As it turns out, not much at all:

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/-62296—.html

This undoubtedly happens all the time to street criminals in the joint. The attacks can easily be blamed on gang disputes.

I say let’s issue extra long bed sheets to this POS and let him end the saga for good.

Scott Brown: "That doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

Understatement of the week.

The mere fact that prison officials have to discuss these 'needs' seriously, and that they actually have a Gender Identity Disorder Treatment Committee in the prison system tells me that we, as a society, have gone way out of the boundaries laid down in the Constitution and the generally accepted mores that prevailed for the first 200 years of our country's existence.

We are doomed. By our own feckless stupidity and liberal catering to any old demand made by their constituents.

More proof that the Viet Cong really did put LSD in the drinking water.

My big question is why does the corrections department have a “Gender Identity Disorder Treatment Committee?”

Now I understand why we have a two billion dollar budget shortfall. There is absolutely no slack in the state budget, every single nickle is used to provide our working families vital services.

Every married man knows that. Usually he finds out when he starts to shave one morning and tears the skin off his face in bloody chunks. My advice to guys about to be married or move in with their main squeeze, and to the fathers of all preteen girls: tell the women in your life they can use your razor to shave their legs, but please, please, please, change the blade, or dispose of it afterwards.

I agree that every married man knows that women have to shave their legs - I fully expected a few guys to complain that they wished some of us shaved our legs more often (public sightings of hirsute women).
I would add to your face-gouge request that there is an infection issue. My friend’s college prof’s face was paralyzed on one side. His daughter had borrowed his razor to shave her legs, he nicked himself shaving with that blade and acquired an unusual form of bacteria (doc believes bacteria came from her legs) that managed to cause nerve damage before it was brought under control. For that reason - the prof always reminded students not to borrow the razors of male guests or family members - it’s no small issue.
