I’m a country girl and I panic if I see a bear closer than a 1/4 mile, too!
My girlfriend, who can shoot and who carries, was berry-picking on their property and one came by real close. She will not go up there again alone, preferably with her husband who carries something large enough to maybe affect the critter.
Awesome creatures.
