I just noticed this.
Why is the Facebook "Like" icon now appearing on every page I go to? Is FR now connected in some way to Facebook?

In case you didn’t notice, pretty much every other website on the internet has a way to share content on facebook, bloggers, and other social network sites. This isn’t ‘shilling’ for facebook, it is just keeping up with the times and taking the message out of our little world here and to the bigger world.
As a former boss told me (in a business context), if you don’t grow, you die.
Nope, you aren't on there unless you create an account there. This function 'shares' stories that are posted here, it doesn't share people.
But JimRob does not allow us to put js in a post, why does he trust FB to insert js?
And if FB changes their like button code to do something bad JimRob can yank the link.
Really? And he's monitoring what they do with it, and that the js code isn't possible to change or be served different for requests from fr??
FB (and twitter, and digg) like buttons are all over the internet, if you go anywhere you’re probably getting them. No reason to freak out about them here
Yes. And they all report in the referencing page. Do you really think the fb people are always going to treat traffic from FR the same way they treat visits from TMZ?

If you have javascript enabled, then you are "clicking on facebook" just by loading any page now.
FR was not broke. No need to fix it. Just sayin!
....and it's great for tweeking your not-so-consrvative FB friends by letting them know just how much of a VRWC nut you are!....
Actually, the FB site is a way for us to find out info when the site is down.

According to the code I saw, it required you to click it to run the script.

No offense, but if anyone is this concerned about privacy that even a facebook ‘like’ button makes them afraid, they shouldn’t be on the internet period.
Have you ever heard of a company called Acxiom? I’ve been to the data center and have hired many of their employees (and they’ve hired out from under me, kind of a little competitive game). If you knew the kind of data they have on you, you would freak out. Ever person in this country has a marketing profile based on sites you visit, things you buy, catalogs you receive, and what you read. They can predict exactly what you will buy, when you will buy it, and from whom. This data isn’t collected from facebook ‘like’ buttons, simply banner ads, shopper cards, and purchasing history builds these profiles on you.
You can’t hide from the system unless you cut off your internet service and hide in the mountains- so instead, use it to your advantage.
After you click “Like” you get an option to share.

I was wondering what was up with the FB LIKE button.
I had this Facebook stuff show up on a website when I was logged on to Facebook. I just want to second your suggestion of Ghostery. I've blocked 40+ trackers and they're still showing up. The only annoyance is that the black box that list the trackers still shows up on a site after you've blocked everything on that site. I've seen Adblock plus recommended on here before. It's a good one also.
Can you please give a detailed desciption on how to use install the firefox plugin and then what to do.

I just clicked "Like" at the top of this thread. OMG! A picture of my underwear was sent to all of my FB friends and the TSA. Also, my back account was cleared out.
The up side is that I received an $800 check from Bill Gates!

I was simply replying to people who said "don't like? don't click."
Point is, FB makes the decision what the code does at any given time, not the freeper.
Just open the Tools->Add-Ons menu in Firefox.
Click on Get Add-ons in the upper left of the window that pops up.
Search for "NoScript". Once you find it, click the Add to Firefox button.
Once you start using it, you must enable the domains you want to run scripts (either temporary or permanently).
There will be an icon in the bottom of Firefox that looks like an blue S with a smaller red circle/slash over the bottom of the S. Right-click that icon to enable or disable scripts from the domain(s) you are currently viewing.
There's an option for Ghostery to not display the "black box". I've told it to blacklist all trackers and I've never seen the need to whitelist any of them.
NoScript stops most of the annoying (i.e., Flash) ads anyway, but AdBlock is still a good option.
How bout we compromise?
If anyone believes that adding a FB "like" link has not potentially eliminated their anonymity on FR, they shouldn’t be on the internet period.
