Facebook "Like" is Appearing on every page, what's up with that?

I just noticed this.

Why is the Facebook "Like" icon now appearing on every page I go to? Is FR now connected in some way to Facebook?

You would still have to click the link. The link was coded by FR to run the Javascript on a click. You would have to be accusing FR of malice in order to make sense.

I just ‘liked’ this post.

Just don't "like" your own posts...you'll go blind.

"They’re also working on a “dislike” button for blog excerpts..."

Shouldn't you be railing against FR using Facebook "like" buttons? I mean its basically the same as excerpting right? (Linking another website to up the popularity of both websites.)

hahahahahah

I’m not sure what your post means but I don’t think I “like” it.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Did you see the code they're going to send tomorrow? Next Week?

Then why do you have images from other sites and links to amazon.com on your profile page? Amazon is one of the worst at collecting data from people who click links or host images on their sites. You are contributing to what you fear.

No, nobody is ripping off videos or posting partial content in an effort to get blog hits.

Totally different issue.

"or posting partial content in an effort to get blog hits."

Oh, OK, I misunderstood the relationship between FR and FB. So then all Content on FR is re-posted on FB in full. Excellent, could you provide the link for me wherein I can see all the FR content posted in full on FB?

It depends on where the Javascript is being served from.

The LIKE button in question is served from facebook.net. That's not the same as facebook.com, as far as NoScript is concerned.

I wouldn't know but I rather doubt it. Why would it be?

I misunderstood the relationship between FR and FB.

I know there is a FR page on Facebook, what benefit is derived
from a "Like" button here I have no idea. Not my problem.

I'm sure it bears NO relation to blogpimping. Different animal.

Yes. That’s right.

Amazon knows who I am. And Amazon could “out” me if they wanted to.

That’s true. And I have to ‘trust’ them that they confine themselves to our commercial confidential agreement, to which at least they have some fiduciary incentive to keep me as a customer.

How many Freepers who say “don’t like it, don’t click” think they are anonymous? I’d say 100%.

So I post to enlighten, and if you insist, give them the appropriate amount of concern.

Facebook has no fiduciary responsibility to do anything other than expand hits to FB. If tracking freepers and associating traffic from FR to friends on FB helps FB, then they’ll do it.

I like the facebook ‘like’ button.

Here we’re all on the same side (more or less) and I like everyone (except for those I can’t stand)...

but on facebook I have the opportunity to preach to (I mean inform) liberals. And I do it every day.

This will just make it easier. Most original articles now have ‘share’ pages at the bottom, so that you can share the article in various ways including facebook.

Jim is a member on facebook and he posts nearly every day.

> “FR was not broke. No need to fix it.”

.
What you seem to be missing is the stated purpose of FR.

Using the “Like” allows us to spread FR’s influence exponentially farther.

"I'm sure it bears NO relation to blogpimping. Different animal."

I see, here are a couple of simple questions for you to answer.

1. What is the ultimate goal of the activity you call "Blog pimping"?

2. What is the ultimate goal of Free Republic having a facebook page. (Wherein stories that are linked and excerpted with a freerepublic.com net address which are posted on Facebook are organized automatically in the FB search function and associated with the Free Republic Facebook page.)

Let me save you time. Its in order to drive traffic to the respective sites. Its the way the Internet works because it is beneficial to both sites. A point you repeatedly seem to "not get"!

Here's the point YOU don't get.

1. What is the ultimate goal of the activity you call "Blog pimping"?

To enrich a scummy blogpimp.

If FR is being promoted on Facebook, it's for the purpose of spreading information.

You'll note the lack of advertisements here.
