Remembering the Fateful Day in Dallas When President John F. Kennedy Was Assassinated

CBS) It seems so long ago, and so recent.

Those of a certain age will remember where they were 47 years ago today when they heard about the shots ringing out in Dallas. Subsequent assassinations of public figures did not quell the pain felt by the nation when President John F. Kennedy was killed, less than three years after entering office, at the age of 46.

Shortly after noon on November 22, 1963, President Kennedy was waving to the cheering crowd as his motorcade passed the Texas School Book Depository on Elm Street when gunfire was heard.

The president slumped into the back seat of his open limousine with gaping wounds in his head and neck.

He lost consciousness immediately.

A third bullet tore through the chest and arm of Texas Governor John B. Connally, Jr, who was riding in the limo along with the Kennedys.

The car sped to nearby Parkland Hospital where the president, 46, was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.

The governor's wounds were severe but not fatal. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, seated next to her husband, was not injured.

Two hours after the shooting, police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald and charged him with murder.

JFK -

Largest tax cuts in American history
Pro-gun (NRA Life Member)
Anticommunist and not afraid to use troops for America’s national interest
Bona fide war hero - personally brave and deeply patriotic
Assassinated by a devout Marxist leftist named Lee Harvey Oswald

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.”

And let it be known that Oswald was a leftist and a communist.

Everyone who was alive on this date remembers where they were when the news broke.

I remember getting in trouble for playing with my somewhat loud toy pinball game while my mother was watching the coverage.

Funny, the little things that make an permanent impression in ones memory.

I remember it all too well. I was in 5th grade. At a little after 1pm the principal came on the pa system and gave us the news. That was the quietest ride home on the bus I've ever experienced. Very sad!

They don’t seem to make Democrats like JFK anymore.

My mother, who whad been a Democrat, switched parties when LBJ got into office.

It’s funny how there are certain historical events everyone remembers, while so many important ones they forget.

My mom remembers Pearl Harbor. It’s burned in her mind.

My kids will never forget 9-11.

I was a young child. I was in school I remember my teacher saying, “Oh no” and putting her head on the desk. It was the afternoon and we were all sent home early (they’d never do that nowadays) They took everything else off the airwaves and played music.

It seems strange to me to know grownups who weren’t alive when JFK was killed. I think it is a dividing line between us and a younger generation.

And to politicize this thread, Obama was one of them. And he didn’t even live in the US when King was shot, or RFK. He is an alien creature.

There are so many conspiracy theories on who killed JFK, I sometimes wonder who DIDN’T kill JFK...

Well, his Daddy got the Mafia to deliver a victory in Chicago and then his Brother croosed them as AG. - FIRST possibility

Then he tried to have Castro assassinated by the Mafia - Second possibility

So I guess he ticked off a lot of people.

The Warren Commission contributed to the conspiracy theorists by its Star Chamber Hearings on the case.

Yup!! They lose it if you is NOT as over the edge as THEY are. They're funny like that!!

When I was a college freshman, (I voted Democrat, then), my professor docked me a whole letter grade because I was not as rabid as he was.

That's when and WHY I changed my affiliation. The pathology spooked me.

JFK, through a campaign speech before a bunch of Baptists to win votes, created the environment where a politician could privately believe one thing but vote for something against his beliefs.

In other words, he created the environment where pro-abortion Catholics could exist and fast-tracked the Separation of the Church and State ruse that is killing this country.

Well, I know I didn't. I think. Unless they hypnotized me, sent me back in time (I was born in 1969), and then erased my memory.

Wait. What's that sound?!?

Helicopters?!!

Gotta go!

I was in third grade and we were rehearsing the Thanksgiving pageant in which I played William Bradford. My mother had made buckles for my shoes out of cardboard and tin foil.

"Greetings to you Squanto. Greetings to you Samoset and welcome to our first Thanksgiving."

The rehearsal was over and I was bouncing a basketball on stage behind the closed curtain when someone said Kennedy had been shot. I was confused at first because one of my third grade classmates was named Kennedy.

Anyway, back in the classroom I remember the principal coming on the intercom and speaking at length about it and what it meant.

When I got home I found my mother crying. Again I felt confused knowing that we were Republicans and had supported Nixon.

No cartoons on TV for days, just news, funerals and processions. Seems like yesterday.

I'm too young for JFK. The three biggies for me are Reagan getting shot, the space shuttle explosion, and of course 9/11. I'll never forget this picture.

Where did that thing come from?

I was in math class.

Part of actually being ‘alive’ is being aware of ones self and surroundings.

Isn't it crazy that even that some now deny?!

People never want their cause, values, movements or ideas associated with bad things, likewise the modern day socialist denies that the NAZI’s were socialists, the modern day secularist will try to pretend as if Hitler was a Christian and argue that the Catholic church collaborated with the NAZI’s, those for gun control laws in Germany will deny that the first real gun laws were passed under Hitler, and likewise they will forget that Kindergeld (a redistributive program paying for children) was begun under the NAZI regime............

People have the urge to distance or disassociate the bad things from what they like because they don't want to see that connection or feel that guilt by association. So today even the fact that Oswald was a Marxist is quickly buried by some.
