(AFP) - After billions of years the Sun finally has an owner -- a woman from Spain's soggy region of Galicia said Friday she had registered the star at a local notary public as being her property.
Angeles Duran, 49, told the online edition of daily El Mundo she took the step in September after reading about an American man who had registered himself as the owner of the moon and most planets in our solar system.
There is an international agreement which states that no country may claim ownership of a planet or star, but it says nothing about individuals, she added.
"There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law. I did it but anyone else could have done it, it simply occurred to me first."
The document issued by the notary public declares Duran to be the "owner of the Sun, a star of spectral type G2, located in the centre of the solar system, located at an average distance from Earth of about 149,600,000 kilometers."
Of course you do, sweetie.
Big Sis already owns uranus...
Wait till she gets the property tax bill!
Algore was heard to say, “Damn!”
Seriesly, where is the facepalm pic?
The problem is, many of the federal courts in THIS country will back her claim and we’ll be paying her for solar power instead of the Arabs for oil. LOL!
I guess congratulations are in order.
Expect a billion lawsuits from starving people that claim she has negligently allowed “her sun” to scorch their crops. Another set to file suit that “her sun” has burnt out various satellites. Another set of lawsuits that will sue her for having “her sun” beam cancer causing radiation onto the entire planet.
If she’s going to be an idiot legally, she will just encourage others to go after her idiotically, legally, too.
I wouldn’t want to pay her property tax bill this year.
This genius actually followed an American who now “owns” the solar system. This scam is way better than global warming.
At least that guy owns some property where one can build.
Good. Now I can sue someone for sunburns, sun cancer, faded paint, plastic flamingo degradation, and dead lawns!
I bet she’s hot!
So this woman is now legally responsible for an unshielded nuclear reactor? This should be... interesting.
Not to mention murder for those cultures that sacrificed in the name of the sun!
Well now all that remains is to arrange a trip to the new property for the dear lady ;)
Since she owns it, she’s liable for the damages caused by it.
(Besides, there is a sealed envelope with a postmarked stamp as evidence it was mine before she laid claim to it, therefore she owes me....;^), but I’ll let her pay off all the damages first...hehehehe
