After billions of years the Sun finally has an owner -- a woman from Spain's soggy region of Galicia said Friday she had registered the star at a local notary public as being her property.

Angeles Duran, 49, told the online edition of daily El Mundo she took the step in September after reading about an American man who had registered himself as the owner of the moon and most planets in our solar system.

Looks like we’ll have to change that old Italian song, “O sole mio” to “¡El sol es mio!”

So that she won’t get burned, she only visits the sun at night. Would someone in Spain adjust her meds and tighten her straight jacket? Thanks.

“So now no one can set foot there without her permission.”

The law likely would require her to post No Trespassing signs to enforce her claims of ownership. After all, space is a big territory, and it wouldn’t be fair to be slapping fines on every unsuspecting UFO driver who stops at the sun for a bathroom break.

I thought of No Trespassing signs. She should be required to post them every hundred miles or so, in every direction across the surface. (How many would that be?)

Of course, since she has no Trespassing Sign Delivery Vehicles of her own, she should be required to fund the development of them through the appropriate space exploration agency (which is basically the space exploration agency of any country other than the United States, since NASA is now dedicated to Muslim Outreach and won’t be able to help her with her project).

She’s hoping the value will increase tenfold, since she heard one day the sun will become a red giant.

That gal needs to put that document on Ebay - asap - her working days are over. And part of me isn’t being sarcastic when I say that. Who wouldn’t want the original notary stamp giving them ownership of the sun as a Christmas present?

“she should be required to fund the development of them through the appropriate space exploration agency”

I guess it’s lucky she now can charge every single person on the planet (except those living in caves) for the privilege of using her sun. Even at a modest (and arguably quite reasonable: surely the privilege of getting some sunshine each day is worth at least 2 cents a week) excise tax of $1 per person per year, she’d generate $6.9 billion a year, sufficient (I assume) for a healthy R&D effort. Of course, collecting all those taxes might divert a sizable chunk of her tax revenues.
