President Obama faces opposition from Democrats upset over his tax-cut deal with Republicans. The deal gives away a position many Democrats thought was a winner for the party — a refusal to keep reduced tax rates for the rich.

The Democrats wanted to keep lower rates for middle income earners, while letting cuts expire for households with incomes of more than $250,000. But the president on Monday said that position cannot prevail if the tax cuts his party wants are to be saved

"We've got to make sure that we're coming up with a solution, even if it's not 100 percent of what I want or what the Republicans want," he said.

But many Democrats felt the president gave up too much and gave in too fast. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was noncommittal. Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont said he would filibuster, and a group of progressive Democrats in the House circulated a letter in opposition. Adam Green of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee called the deal a capitulation

"Everything President Obama has done has signaled weakness and has sent a signal to Republicans that if they block tax cuts long enough, at the end of the day he will pass whatever comes across his desk. That is not how you negotiate," Green said. The Democratic leadership in Congress also chose not to have a vote on the tax cuts before the fall election.

I'm glad my taxes aren't going up and I hope the compromise is limited to paying 13 months of unemployment benefits. I can live with this compromise and I think it will be good for the country if we pay for it through spending cuts. I sincerely hope that this spirit of compromise does not extend to immigration reform however.

Time to continue beating the dead horse:

The ‘rich’ are not the target here, just people who are earning a lot of money at the moment. They would like to be ‘rich’ but are probably not there yet. The LSM continues to confuse wealth with earnings. You’d think it would be an easy distinction. It probably is, but one has to want to make the distinction, and one figures the LSM simply doesn’t want to.

I hate it when the dems say it is for the Millionaires and Billionaires.

The family that owns one local gas station would have been affected.

They just want to spread envy and hatred. Anyone see Schultz and Grayson on MSNBC last night - I could only stand 1 minute before I switched channels. Lies.

I know three 20 something men who are on unemployment - they sit home, smoke weed and play video games and laugh about all the “free” money they are getting from the “government.”

Now, now—the Messiah moves in mysterious ways! What about that leg tingle? Is it gone?

Wonder what is up with the two year deal on tax cuts. That would mean it will come up before Congress right before the 2012 presidental election.

I wouldn't want to be a Dem running for Congress with that vote looming over their heads.

I think the Pubbies are pretty weak once again. Why do they have to make a deal by extending benefits which have already been extended to 99 WEEKS — do you know how long that is? The media doesn’t says that’s nearly TWO years and NOW another 56 weeks? Crazy!!! Do you realize there will be folks who literally will not have worked one day while Zero was sworn in before his term is over? And the money kept coming anyway....

Giving them 13 months of unepmloyment in hopes of getting them back to work is like giving an alcoholic the keys to the liquor cabinet in hopes of getting him off the bottle. Obama's trade says loads about who he is, who and what he represents, and his vision for America. Come January, it's gonna be time to put an end to this compromising BS. It's gonna be time to show people the meaning of the term "throw the bums out". It's gonna be time to cut that federal budget into tiny little pieces./p>

And isn’t it convenient that they just printed up another 600 million dollars to pay for it. They’ll raise our taxes to pay for this BS one way or the other. Cut the effing budget you GD criminals! cut it. cut it. cut it.

Get the rich? What do you expect? The demonrats are THE party of discrimination. Always have been, always will be.

Look at their history. Blacks, Chinese immigrants, carbon polluters, Big Oil, Big whatever, etc., if you can be grouped, marginalized and turned into a social pariah, look to the demonrats to turn societal and government power against you. All to enhance their political power, individuals, society and consequences be damned.

What could be easier for them than to go after those evil rich people?

“Why do they have to make a deal by extending benefits which have already been extended to 99 WEEKS “

You must realize that they are trying to get this done WITH the Dems still in control of the House. Any deal still needs Obummer’s signature. This was an almost complete capitulation by the Dems. Take the victory...and then build on it...

To hell with what is good for the country. Let's punish those "rich" people.

To every liberal who claims taxes are too low... ask them if they take any deductions (personal, earn income credit etc). Also ask them if they use an accountant to secure some of their money from taxation.

A whole lot of dodging goes on from billion dollar Marxists like Bill Gates who insist that Americans need to pay more income tax (after he worked to cut tech sector jobs by importing lower income Indian workers and driving the industry to smuggle software authored abroad through computer networks without import duty on million dollar software packages that were assembled elsewhere).
