TURLOCK, Calif. -- A painted plywood cut-out of Santa with a cowboy hat and a gun on his belt is causing quite a stir in Turlock.
”I tried to get the image out of my head all day long and I could not, because Santa is made for love, bringing families together, not carrying weapons,” Monica Sliva said.
The Santa is one of many displays that line Tracy’s Christmas Tree Lot on Monte Vista Avenue.
Sliva confronted the workers at the tree lot to ask them to take the gun-toting Santa display down because she said it sends the wrong message to children.
“It portrays to the kids that it’s OK for Santa to be carrying a gun and therefore it’s OK for them to be carrying a gun,” Sliva said.
Tree lot workers said they have been using the cowboy Santa display for 20 years and have never had a compliant until Sliva asked them to take it down.
“I think it’s pretty crazy, to tell you the truth,” Bobby Vierra said. “I mean, we're just trying to sell trees out here.”
When commotion over the display caused traffic to back up, workers covered the gun on Santa's belt. The display was then temporarily taken down.

I recently got an email at work concerning a local toy drive. I was considering donating, until a follow-up email stated that there were to be "no toy guns, swords, nor other toys that promote violence." I promptly deleted both emails.

ANOTHER GRINCH
Now Grinches hate Christmas, it’s always been plain,
And this year a Grinch showed up again!
To steal Christmas this time, he tried another way
To steal all the presents---AND Santa’s sleigh!
He climbed on a roof, behind a chimney hunkered down,
Ready to get on the sleigh with one bound.
Then late in the night he heard the sound
From way up in the sky it was coming down.
Sleigh-bells tinkling and a reindeer snort
Gave notice that the time was growing short!
The sleigh came down and landed so close
That a reindeer gagged (Grinches really smell gross!)
The Grinch held a big club to whop Santa with,
To knock the old guy off, and take the sleigh and the gifts!
He leaped into the air, on the sleigh to land—
And Santa turned around, raising his hand.
Blued steel gleamed in the dim starlight,
And three muzzle flashes lit up the night.
Two shots to the chest and one to the head,
And that darned ol’ Grinch was lying there dead!
His plan to steal Christmas had gone down in defeat,
‘Cause this year Santa was packing heat!
Good grief. I hate liberals’ “feelings.” I wish they’d shove those feelings “where the sun don’t shine.”
