A massive storm brought subzero temps and a foot of snow to the Midwest Saturday, also setting off a tornado warning in parts of the South, forecasters say.
In the Twin Cities... "I highly recommend that people don't plan to be out and about. It's really going to be dangerous to be traveling outside."

Global. Warming. Is. Not. For. Wimps.
IS Al Gore in town?
Off with their heads!
Raining here in southern Militiagan tonight.
It’s been raining pitchforks and naked babies here for days, and all of it is heading East into all of that cold air.
I heard right before Thanksgiving that the Teton Mountains already had 100 inches of base snowfall. This will be a good winter for recharging a whole bunch of watersheds.
Cancun is hosting the U.N. conference on man-made climate change amid record cold temperatures.
the temperature plunged to a 100-year record low
Guys out on the lake icefishing today here in michigan.
The myth of “global warming” strikes again. It’s abundantly clear that those pushing this junk “science” have an anti-American agenda.
Here in central Wisconsin we have a proper blizzard taking place.
Still rain in the Milwaukee WI area. Snow to start @ midnight, blizzard
Winds toward daylight.
Have you heard what the depth of the ice is?
Apparently enough. There were 4 shanties out there.
I think you need 6” to walk on and 10” to drive on.
It’s deadly outside here in Iowa tonight. One of the wickedest blizzards we’ve seen in awhile.
A big bolt of lightning here in Gladeville, TN at 43F.
NW Wisconsin looks like the planet Pluto...or Siberia.
Dr. Zhivago made it look desirable. It IS pretty out there.
That storm was great. I had all I could do to get home. The snow got too deep about a block from my house and I had to walk the rest of the way home. Its been a great day to lay around the house. I took a two hour nap during the middle of the day!
waiting for it to get here to us in Milwaukee...I went and got extra vodka! :)
Folks, it's called "winter"!!!!
We're pretty much used to it! I've got a fire in the fireplace, a "Tom and Gerry" in my hand, "It's a Wonderful Life" on the TV, and alls right with the world.
I'll dig out tomorrow and snowshoe over to Pickens to pick up a Sunday paper.
Gotta love it!
Huge snowstorm, arctic chill hit Midwest.
And in December. Who knew?
As the United Nations opened its latest conference on global warming, Mother Nature sent snowstorms and freezing temperatures that disrupted travel all across Europe and much of the Northern Hemisphere. Even Cancun, Mexico's sunny resort city that hosted the confab, was not spared the chill. The UN summit, known as COP16 (the 16th Conference of Parties on global warming), concluded Saturday morning after an all-night marathon session. Cancun may not have experienced blizzards and ice, but it did, nevertheless, get hammered with record low temps for the month of December.
The irony, it burns. Do you think maybe Gaia is trying to send the U.N. and the delegates a message? One record low was funny, three in a row was hilarious, a new record low for the month of December was ROFL, but now six straight days of record lows during the U.N. COP16 Global Warming conference? Thats galactically inconvenient. The whole month so far has averaged below normal:
In other news, winter is cold and getting colder each year.
In Iowa - it’s Snowmageddon. And the media is having a stormgasm.
One county in Central Iowa says if you go out and get stuck, you’re there until sometime Sunday - you’re on your own.
Being out in weather like this is shear idiocy. There is nothing worth getting stuck in a drift and freezing to death for.
Really a nasty mix here in GR. Still mostly rain and wet snow, but I can already see the ice building up.
if you see SNOW and PHOENIX in the same headline, it was prolly a drug bust
The wind will suck but if you’re going to have freezing rain the wind will break up the ice before it gets heavy on the trees.
The good old UN has an anti-American agenda?
Can’t be true — after all, without the US support they would be headquartered in the slums of Monrovia and still not be able to pay the landlord.
Darn, all we have is alittle rain.
I don’t care. Snow tires are on the car, wood is stacked high, coals in the fireplace are glowing nicely and a beer is on the table in front of me.
Bring it on.

“D-MN This Global Warming and all the pain and suffering it causes!”
(My feeble paraphrase about war from an actor...maybe Charleton Heston?)
This winter looks like it has the chance of shaping up like those tough
years of (IIRC) 1978 and 1979 in Oklahoma.
The real question is...
where are Al Gore and East Anglia global warming professors?
(Sound of crickets!)
We went to the store today to get ready for it. It’s just cold rain here right now but it will be changing to snow and high winds by morning.
Should be my first one in Hales Corners...
It was 77 degrees today in Southern California, gentle on-shore Pacific breeze, sunny, clear, not a cloud...
Orange trees are so loaded, we gave two bags away to the neighbors down the road...
Where is that pic from?
That’s our place from a recent winter which looks surprisingly like this winter.
Do you have a 90% efficient furnace? If so, where do the pipes exit out of?
The 100 gal propane tank is for the stove and clothes dryer only.
Where are you in Iowa? And what’s the snowfall been?
I’ve been waiting for the blizzard all day, and so far, just a covering of snow down here in Iowa City. I’m afraid of what I might wake up to, tomorrow.
Cool system. Do you have an electric strip in your furnace, another backup system or does the geo/heat pump work all winter long?
It was the only system for the first four years (we built in late ‘05 and early ‘06) but we added a fireplace for atmosphere recently...although it also serves well at 20 below when the geothermal is struggling to keep up. The 80gal storage tank is also an electric water heater in an emergency. There is also an air-to-air heat exchanger to provide the necessary air changes.
You have a great house. Did you build it yourself or buy it after it was built? I was going to put in a heat pump this year but I couldn’t get the ARI matching system for the 15 SEER requirement for the $1500 bucks back from the government.
