A massive storm brought subzero temps and a foot of snow to the Midwest Saturday, also setting off a tornado warning in parts of the South, forecasters say.

In the Twin Cities... "I highly recommend that people don't plan to be out and about. It's really going to be dangerous to be traveling outside."

Dr. Zhivago made it look desirable. It IS pretty out there.

That storm was great. I had all I could do to get home. The snow got too deep about a block from my house and I had to walk the rest of the way home. Its been a great day to lay around the house. I took a two hour nap during the middle of the day!

I live in WI....have been here for six years.

Folks, it's called "winter"!!!!

We're pretty much used to it! I've got a fire in the fireplace, a "Tom and Gerry" in my hand, "It's a Wonderful Life" on the TV, and alls right with the world.

I'll dig out tomorrow and snowshoe over to Pickens to pick up a Sunday paper.

Gotta love it!

Wife worked in downtown Mpls at the time. She made it to within two blocks of our house in Prior Lake before she slid into a ditch. It wasn't until the following Sunday afternoon that we could line up a tow truck.
Those were the days...

Record Cold at Cancun Climate Confab

As the United Nations opened its latest conference on global warming, Mother Nature sent snowstorms and freezing temperatures that disrupted travel all across Europe and much of the Northern Hemisphere. Even Cancun, Mexico's sunny resort city that hosted the confab, was not spared the chill. The UN summit, known as COP16 (the 16th Conference of Parties on global warming), concluded Saturday morning after an all-night marathon session. Cancun may not have experienced blizzards and ice, but it did, nevertheless, get hammered with record low temps for the month of December.

--------------------------------------

“Gore Effect” on Steroids: Six straight days of record low temperatures during COP16 in Cancun Mexico – more coming

The irony, it burns. Do you think maybe Gaia is trying to send the U.N. and the delegates a message? One record low was funny, three in a row was hilarious, a new record low for the month of December was ROFL, but now six straight days of record lows during the U.N. COP16 Global Warming conference? That’s galactically inconvenient. The whole month so far has averaged below normal:

---------------------------------------------

In other news, winter is cold and getting colder each year.

In Iowa - it’s Snowmageddon. And the media is having a stormgasm.

One county in Central Iowa says if you go out and get stuck, you’re there until sometime Sunday - you’re on your own.

Being out in weather like this is shear idiocy. There is nothing worth getting stuck in a drift and freezing to death for.

Really a nasty mix here in GR. Still mostly rain and wet snow, but I can already see the ice building up.

The wind will suck but if you’re going to have freezing rain the wind will break up the ice before it gets heavy on the trees.

The good old UN has an anti-American agenda?

Can’t be true — after all, without the US support they would be headquartered in the slums of Monrovia and still not be able to pay the landlord.

I don’t care. Snow tires are on the car, wood is stacked high, coals in the fireplace are glowing nicely and a beer is on the table in front of me.

Bring it on.

“D-MN This Global Warming and all the pain and suffering it causes!”

(My feeble paraphrase about war from an actor...maybe Charleton Heston?)

This winter looks like it has the chance of shaping up like those tough
years of (IIRC) 1978 and 1979 in Oklahoma.

The real question is...
where are Al Gore and East Anglia global warming professors?

(Sound of crickets!)

We went to the store today to get ready for it. It’s just cold rain here right now but it will be changing to snow and high winds by morning.
