Armenian Americans -- many right here in the Los Angeles area -- are calling Kobe Bryant's endorsement deal with Turkish Airlines "Kobe's direct flight to inhumanity."
The Armenian Youth Federation says it's considering protests at Staples Center if Bryant doesn't back down or at least issue some type of statement recognizing the Armenian Genocide, when approximately 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were killed.
Bryant has talked about the endorsement deal, telling CNBC, "I've never been to Turkey, but all the guys on the team who have been keep saying (that) it's one of the hottest places to go. This is another deal for me that proves that we're global, and it obviously makes sense with them starting flights in LA."
The Turkish government says it's happy to have Bryant playing on their team.

I have seen that used more in the last few months than ever before.
It’s embarrassing that ‘seasoned’ Freepers even resort to such.
It used to be all about the content of a poster’s argument back in the ‘olden days’ when I was a ‘noob’. But that only works if your sign-up date precedes the sign-up date of the person throwing the ‘noob insult’ around. :-)
I happen to live in the present, and I think Kobe does too. If I sided with everyone in their grievances as they pleaded with me, it would do no good. Might as well pick one to love me and one to hate me. In fact, picking neither side is best. I learned that as a mediator.
I think Kobe definitely lives in the present, in the sense he probably doesn’t have a clue on this or many historical issues. He just happened to make an endorsement in a town that has a sizeable community for which this is an ongoing source of contention.
The killing of Armenians is a matter of historical record, but getting the Turks to admit to it... well that’s probably less likely than the Japanese apologizing for Nanking.
I’m off to scourge myself on the off chance that one of my ancestors kept slaves, see you later. ;)
Regardless, Turkey is one of the rising economies of the world, along with China, India, Iran and Brazil. (And, I didn't make any assertions re entitlements in Turkey; you pulled that one out of thin air.)
Obviously, you have a problem. Let me TRY to help you, carefully and slowly. I am not Clemenza.
Add your inability to comprehend that simple fact, to your baseless personal accusations and your refusal to state your country of origin although you refer to it as “across from” Turkey, your obviously biased and muddled statements have ZERO credibility.
Are you sure you want to admit to being a friend of the poster you write to in #42?
And, wouldn’t you expect a FReeper — although protected by an anonyous user I.D. — to be forthcoming about country of origin, especially when they have already obliquely referred to its location?
Doesn’t dishonesty on one point call other points into question?
Are you in the habit of projecting your opinions onto others as a form of 'argument'?
"And, wouldnt you expect a FReeper although protected by an anonyous user I.D. to be forthcoming about country of origin, especially when they have already obliquely referred to its location?"
Are you attempting to re-direct the focus of the discussion onto your opponent in order to avoid your use of the 'noob argument'?
"Doesnt dishonesty on one point call other points into question?"
Does the projection ever stop?
You have nothing to say about the topic.
You won’t admit to coming to the thread to help your friend troll.
And you approve of dishonesty in stating nationality.
However, you claim righteous indignation over “the use of the noob argument.”
ROFLMAOOOOOO!!!!!
The topic is your use of the 'noob argument'.
"You wont admit to coming to the thread to help your friend troll."
Still trying to shift attention away from your use of the 'noob argument'.
"And you approve of dishonesty in stating nationality."
Still projecting your opinions onto others as a form of 'argument'.

"ROFLMAOOOOOO!!!!!"
Doing your part to turn FR into the equivalent of a Yahoo Message Board, I see.
Even knowing nothing as you do of the history of the region - If you had an ounce of compassion or sense of justice you would not be defending the genocidal islamo-fascist parastate of Turkey - the last bastion of the personality cult of the butcher Mustafa Kemal. Your defense of Turkland is about at a par with AliBama’s.
You a Freeper? more like a DUmmer.
Earlier, you referred to me as "he," even though my user name is clearly feminine gender and your pal eleni referred to me as "she," which is correct. Whatever YOU are claiming to be on any given day, which obviously changes, you are very slow on the uptake. I also think you're a re-tread; the "expert in shooting" comment aimed at me looks familiar.
So..... can you see Turkey from your house?
No it is the ignorant people who insist we all adjust every aspect of our lives because of the crud of the earth people who cannot live withing the bounds set by society.
So take your dumb statement and stick it.
You are the poster child for the label of “Dumb American”, no hyphenation required.
Maybe you shouldn’t talk about yourself so much online, because the pieces don’t fit together.
You were born in a country “across from Turkey,” which you fail to disclose, yet your “hometown” is Newport, Wales. According to you, hometown is not one’s place of origin. At the same time you are also a “Florida voter.”
In the meantime, you claim to be “American” and to have served in the U.S. Army, having once been Christian Orthodox but now “Born Again” and you specialize in pharmacotherapy, whatever that is.
Maybe you are all of these, but the “Florida voter” and “hometown in Wales” puzzle pieces definitely do not fit together.
Cheers!!
