With spectacular performances by Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld and Matt Damon, the visually stunning film has already claimed nominations from the Critics' Choice Awards and Screen Actors Guild for categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Jeff Bridges) and Best Supporting Actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Steinfeld's talent nearly stole the show. Her breakthrough performance mirrors her role in the film, in which the young thespian holds her own against Bridges and Damon. She certainly is one to watch this award season and beyond for what looks like the beginning of a promising career.

The entire cast was truly flawless (though it is in the tradition of the Coen brothers productions where anyone would struggle to recall a scene with bad

I cant remember the last time I went to see a film in the theater.

This film looks worthwhile just for the storyline and the film work.

Some of the new movies NEED to be experienced on a big screen. The sound, the action, the need to wiggle past several sets of feet to get to the bathroom... well, not that one, but you need to see at least ONE new 3D movie.

I’m with you brother. I don’t directly or indirectly support communists. But it seems to some, “to be entertained” while being snuffed out is ok.

"Their treatment of ‘No Country for Old Men"

Yep, the character Woody was playing producing a ATM card during a 70's setting movie...priceless.

Is this a remake of the John Wayne, Kim Darby and Glenn Campbell flick? Or is it a completely new one? NOBODY can replace Rooster Cogburn!

Yes, and ATM’s where first in use as early as 1962. They rolled out in the U.S. in the early seventies and where popular in many areas by the mid to late 1970’s. The first IBM unit was the IBM 3614 and thousands where in use by 1976.

The fact that he was given a credit or debit card that had a daily transaction limit was absolutely reasonable for a movie set in the seventies. It is even more reasonable considering that the movie is set in 1980. By 1980 ATM machines where at almost every bank.

Oh yeah............and were they able to keep Bridges sober frequently enough and for long enough periods to actually complete a flick?

Maybe in New Yawk during that period.

Even up to 1985, good luck finding a bank premise ATM in west or east Texas. Or even any rural Texas town.

That was in Del Rio in the 70's...no.

Wayne may have been Rooster, but the rest of the cast waere underwhelming ( save Duvall , but his role was unfortunately small).

The movie was set in SW & West Texas. What is your point?

Don’t mean to be technical, but the film was set in 1980. Hubby and I got our first Versatel card from BofA in 1981. Not too far off the mark.

Forget the politics of the actors.

I had all the doubts voiced here about a remake, most are horrible, but after watching the trailer I got a pavlovian response of getting choked up. The original version is the only movie I’ve ever seen that elicits that kind of response from me. Maybe it’s because I have two young daughters.

I’m going to take the kids to watch the new version over the holidays!

Your home page has the Kalifornia flag.

In the early eighties, I cashed my checks in banks and spent my money in bars from Del Rio to San Angelo. The ATM was as foreign as a penguin crossing a Texas highway.
