SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIAGeoscientists want everyone, including policymakers, to understand their work and its possible ramifications for society. But on Wednesday, an overflow crowd of 400 at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting here received some practical advice about getting the message out.
"Communication with the public is not a monologue, it's a dialogue," said Princeton University climatologist Michael Oppenheimer. "We should get used to being public people." Climate scientist Jay Gulledge of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change in Arlington, Virginia, said, "There used to be arguments in sessions like this between those who said, 'Keep your nose clean,' and others who said, 'Go talk to politicians.' You don't hear those [arguments] anymore."
Oppenheimer's talk was part of a bevy of presentations at the weeklong meeting devoted to communicating science to a broader audience. The initiative, part of AGU's increased emphasis on the topic, included workshops on speaking and science blogging and a panel with several authors of books on climate (including this reporter).

"Civil rights attorney Joyce Schon of progressive group By Any Means Necessary encouraged participants to display their passion for the cause. "Your role is to discover the truth and lay down your lives to disseminate it," she told attendees during a panel discussion. The group distributed flyers asking scientists to "Defend our Science and to Fight for the Real Political Action Necessary to Solve the Environmental Crisis." "
Unbelievable that educated people would form an alliance with a radical fringe group like "By Any Means Necessary". Check out their web site to see what a Marxist group they are:

Did they have a panel discussion on how to properly communicate via email so that when your emails get leaked you don’t end up looking like a press flack for a third world dictator?
If this were a discussion on really educating the public about science, I’d say it was worthwhile. The amount of scientific illiteracy is simply appalling.
But it seems to be just a discussion on ramming the idea of “global warming” down the public’s throats. We’ve already been bombarded with fearmongering about global warming for a few decades now; too much crying wolf has made many of us immune to the message. Finding new ways to try to alarm us about global warming isn’t likely to do much at this point.
They are just like Obama.
The public rejects their constant yammering, fear mongering, and over-communication of their "message" (read propaganda).
So they conclude they need to TRY HARDER at communicating their "message".
It turns people off even more.
They are stuck trying to fit the square peg in the round hole. And they conclude they need to push harder. It demonstrates lack of common sense and mental illness IMHO.
In reality, these people all have well-paying jobs and enjoy an upper middle class lifestyle - no one's laying down their lives for anything. I find it intriguing how they superimpose this dramatic narrative to motivate warmist radicalism; as if they're tapping into some primal fantasy of being the persecuted truth-teller.

These “scientists” know they aren’t kidding anyone anymore. Now they’re admitting that they are _POLITICALLY_ motivated and Saul Alinsky’s “rules” are their play-book:
[Saul].....Alinsky scolded the Sixties Left for scaring off potential converts in Middle America. True revolutionaries do not flaunt their radicalism, Alinsky taught. They cut their hair, put on suits and infiltrate the system from within.
“A related principle taught by Alinsky was that radical organizers must not only speak the language of the middle class, but that they also must dress their crusades in the vestments of morality. Moral rationalization, he said, is indispensable to all kinds of action, whether to justify the selection or the use of ends or means. All great leaders, he added, invoked moral principles to cover naked self-interest in the clothing of freedom, equality of mankind, a law higher than man-made law, and so on. In short: All effective actions require the passport of morality. ...” Continue here: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=d6e27ece-9798-4f01-a378-3f1405f69704
