I think the key word on this post “yuck” pretty well says it all.

The money should go to the wife.

Was that caused by decomposition, or had they filled it with shavings?

Weird.

So, if you are the “lucky” winning bidder, what do you do with this dubious treaure? Make a coffee table out of it? There’s something sick about attaching $$$ value to things like this.

You'd be surprised at what goes on.

The "asylumeclectica.com" has links to all sorts of crime, diseases, the offbeat, and whatnot.

Not for the squeamish, easily offended, etc.

Obviously the economy is booming. All that doom and gloom that so many of us believed was coming was just foolishness.

Some people have WAY too much money, and way too much time to waste on things like this.

It looks like excelsior to me.

I am guessing that the lining decomposed and that allowed the stuffing behind it to fall in to the bottom of the coffin.

The article said that it was a simple Pine coffin (read cheap prison supplied coffin). That means cheap lining that would decompose quickly. The article also said that the coffin was water damaged. That also means that water was also likely inside the coffin contributing to decomposition of a biodegradable lining.

Could be a profit motive.

The buyer could have a museum of the macabre; Might be a new exhibit to draw tourist.

From the article:

The coffin was unearthed in October 1981 after a legal dispute between Oswald's widow, Marina, and his brother, Robert.

Marina successfully sought an exhumation to test a conspiracy theory that a look-alike Russian agent had been buried in her husband's place, according to the auction house.

A medical exam showed the badly decomposed body was indeed Oswald's, and he was returned to Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas, in a new casket.

Reporters were enlisted to act as pallbearers at the interment of Lee Harvey Oswald at the Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth.

I know that this is not a popular view...but I can’t understand spending thousands on any coffin. All of that expensive woodwork and COMFORTABLE lining is such a waste. IF you want a funeral showing the body, there could be some sort of elaborate couch; but burying all of that money is silly.

I’ll be cremated...and even for that you have to BUY A BOX! Insane...buy a box to burn. The cardboard box is about $70...but that’s much better than those lovely work$ of art.
