I bought a Droid2 phone a couple of months ago because I wanted to be able to listen to Rush's archived shows. Unfortunately, I can't get the shows to play.
I have talked to 3 different Verizon representatives about it and they are flummoxed. I can't figure out if they don't know what they're talking about or if the phone simply doesn't have the capability to stream his program. I don't have any trouble accessing his archives on my home or work computer, so I can't figure out what the problem is.
Are there any Droid2 users out there who can help me?
Another problem I'm having with my phone is that if I watch live TV (QVC), the battery drains down to zero even while the phone is plugged in. What the heck is that all about? How is that possible?
Is the Droid2 a lemon or do I have a defective phone?

I have the original Motorola DROID and I go to WABCRadio.com and click listen live. If you have the Android 2.2 upgrade with Flash player it works perfectly.
When available just give it up and buy an iPhone. I’ve been suffering with the fist generation Droid from Motorola to realize that Android and Droid phones just plain suck.
My kid has the 1st droid, and he has had similar problems watching TV. He doesn’t stream radio. But, he’s 14, and he and his friends are really into the free apps, that’s his main thing.
We went with droid because of Verizon, who is the best carrier in our area, and got the droid basically for around an extra 20 bucks a month for our business plan.
He does want the windows phone or iPhone, but we won’t pick up another carrier (AT&T is horrible here in Chicago), but we’ll wait and see what happens in a year if we can pick him up the iPhone or the windows phone on our plan, we might.
He is at his Church youth group till later tonight, and I’ll make a note to ask him if he knows how to stream radio or if he can figure out how to stream Rush (we don’t have a premium account with Rush, not sure if you need one or not to stream the broadcast).
Oh yeah, didn’t think of that, the guys above are right, upgrade the flash player if you haven’t already. I am sure that is what he’ll say, but I will ask him anyhow.
I have the Droid Incredible and I use iheartradio and tunein radio apps to listen to Rush. They are both free in the Android market and work great. I tried to go to Rush’s site but I think the archive is for members only. Is there a non members-only link I could try out for you?
I also wrote a bash script to rip a radio stream and convert it to an mp3. I can then copy it to my phone and listen to it at my convenience. I may convert it to an app one day but there may already be apps that can do that... I haven’t checked.
I am doing that as son as Verizon gets the Windows 7 phone myself. Frankly my android experience isn’t very good.
I can’t listen live. I’m a conservative, and that means I’m gainfully employed and at work when Rush’s show is on. ;)
Yes, you have to be a member to access the archived shows. I feel like the Verizon salesperson misrepresented the phone if it turns out that I can’t access his archived programs since I made it a point to tell her that’s one of the main features I wanted in a phone.
I am a member. I can listen on my home computer and on my work computer (after hours). I can even sign into my account on Rush’s site on my Droid phone, but when I click on one of the archived shows, nada.
If Rush uses flash to stream, then you just need to make sure flash is installed. Search for Adobe Flash in the market. I watch streaming video from justin.tv and it gets choppy in low signal areas but overall, it works well.
I also should mention you may have to long press the link. After a long press, a menu will pop up and you just select “open”.
My Droid was working fine until Verizon turned on
the LTE network in San Diego on Dec 5th. Now I
get 1x service more than 3g. Streams stutter on
1x. As far as I’m concerned, Verizon is in breach
of contract with me for 3g service. The LTE iPhone
coming in 2 weeks has LTE with fallback to 3g. That
may be the only “fix” for the failure to provide 3g
as before. I’m ticked off as my Droid has been
quite satisfactory. It will still work on WiFi when it
ceases to be my phone.
Download the podcast files from Rush-24/7 via a computer - then load them to your phone as they are mp3 files - those should play fine. Don’t mess with streaming.
I have a Droid X, and my husband downloaded an app, Stitch-something or other, that, he said, would allow me to listen to Rush. I’ve never tried it, though.
My point exactly. There is no such thing as perfect but damn...working with Apple is so much better on the heart.
Do yourself a favor...switch.
I'm not unhappy with the Android OS or the apps on the device. It's kind of nice to be able to run Linux patches on the machines at the house in Idaho while I'm munching on a steak at Applebee's in San Diego. I like having a real keyboard. I'm going to lose that with an iPhone. The iPhone is also beyond a reasonable price point for use in the embedded systems application. C'est la vie. I need to move on. When Verizon offers an LTE upgrade for the mywi2200, I'll make the switch. The current LTE modem from LG only supports a USB connection to a Windows box. Not good enough.
My boy says the flash player needs to be updated, and then it should work fine.
He says he does get streaming video and sound (I didn’t think he did streaming sound) all the time, and it shouldn’t be an issue.
