Workers Use Shotgun to Bring Down Dome's 5th Panel
KSTP ^ | 12-19-10 | Leslie Rolander

Workers at the Metrodome have intentionally ruptured another panel in the building's damaged roof.

Pat Milan, a spokesman for the commission that runs the Dome, says a shotgun slug was fired into the panel because the weight of ice was creating a safety issue. It's the fifth panel that has torn or been torn since a winter storm caused the roof to give way eight days ago.

Isn’t it illegal to shoot a gun in the city limits?

Not for the powers that be. I’m actually not criticizing this action. What ever works. Good for them..

I’m surprised the ‘shotspotter’ didn’t call in the MPLS SWAT.

It's still fall. They might want to keep algore's minions off the design team for the next dome, if they build one.

Wow...imagine the repair bills for this inflatable toilet. Plus, the state will have to pony up for a new stadium in the next few years. If they don’t, they will lose their beloved team. Sucks.

A slug? Or was it a sabot round? The article is light on details, which is no surprise. And where the heck did that “slug” end up? Inquiring minds want to know.

It was a shotgun play with a hail mary pass.

I'm a big fan of overbuilding when it comes to structural integrity. A packed NFL stadium, in a heavily snow-prone area, supported by air? It's good that it lasted this long. It's great that it failed when it did. The season's almost over so rebuilding it, if it happens, isn't a critical issue at point. They might just lose their team IMO.

Depends on the “IQ” of the city council.

The liberals, socialists and communists made everything illegal.
As a kid, in Annapolis, Maryland, I used to go with my father to the local Western Auto Hardware Store to buy dynamite so that we could remove stumps from the fields. We’d get several sticks of dynamite, blasting caps and several minutes worth of fuse. All that was required was to sign for it.

I’m pretty sure that you couldn’t do that today, over the counter, without a swat team showing up and a bunch of feds. In the 50s, dynamite was a legitamite tool, like a shovel or a pickaxe, and people could be trusted to use it for its original intended purpose, moving dirt and digging holes.

“The liberals, socialists and communists made everything illegal.”

You are from a time when life was normal, that is gone!

Miss the ol’ days in many ways, even though I am not THAT old really; still wish I could live the days when reason prevailed and the sick libtards were the rare exception before they gained power in the schools and the government.

I am not sure how he got it but I recall my Father using dynamite for the exact same thing, blowing stumps. This was during the 50’s and I thought the fact that he was a combat engineer in WWII may have been what allowed him to use it but maybe not.

I do recall him saying TNT was pretty safe to handle.

Yeah you can throw boxes of TNT around like it full of wood and it will not explode.

>>Yeah you can throw boxes of TNT around like it full of wood<<

Until it starts leaking the nitroglycerin and then you don’t want to even bump it. In hot weather rotate the cases monthly, yup roll them over and that’ll keep the nitro where it belongs.

Back in the 90's, we had some that was going bad out at our place in the boonies. We left the shed door open, and the feral hogs ate it.
