Posted on 12/22/2010 6:05:51 PM PST by Michael.SF.
In the coming days, many of us will be spending time with family and close friends. You might find yourself in a house with Fox News on the TV, or you might find yourself in the company of a family member who likes to talk about the "truth" coming from Fox. You could also be with folks who understand the damage Fox does, but havent heard about this campaign. Any of these could be a great opportunity to talk about why you dont watch Fox and why youre part of the movement to get it turned off in public places. And if you have any good conversations, let us know.
There's no need to be confrontational. The person youre talking with may not be receptive to what you have to say and thats ok. But you might be surprised. This is about sharing your concerns and beliefs, and hearing the thoughts of someone you love. When people are approached respectfully by someone they like and trust, it creates space for them to think and change.
Here are some pointers:
Remain calm. The point here isn't to start an argument it's to share information. Even though some people may be hostile to what you have to say, keeping your cool can help defuse tense situations and make even skeptics receptive to what you have to say.
Listen to what others have to say. If you want to be listened to, then you should also be willing to listen to others' perspectives. If they state something untrue, you can and should offer facts to correct the record when you can but not until after they've finished their thought. And remember, the point isnt to get into an argument or even prove that you're correct. It's to share your point of view.
Offer more information. If the folks you talk to are interested in learning more about our campaign, just have them check out TurnOffFox.org. They can sign up for the campaign at that website. The holiday season provides a unique opportunity to help more people understand what Fox is, how it poisons national discourse, and what role everyday people can play in stopping the damage.
After you have these conversations (even with those who already understand the issue), we would love to hear how they went. Tell us about it by clicking the link below:
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
OK, I admit I keep tabs on these guys just to see what they are up to. Can you believe how incrediably afraid they are of freedome of information and how little they think of the people that are on their side. The above e-mail was sent by one James Rucker. Here is his e-mail address:
What or who is a James Rucker and how does he ruck?
I long ago cut off MSNBC, that should be enough.
Why is it no conservative ever tries to take libards off the air?
What are they so afraid of?
We love it when libtards talk, it makes our job so much easier.
“...We love it when libtards talk, it makes our job so much easier.”
CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and CNBC are all on in public at different places. CNN is on in every airport and some hotels only carry CNN.
Imagine the depth of depravity a person would have to have reached, to think one voice of opposition was verging on the criminal.
Doesn’t this qualify as some sort of mental illness? It would have to be at least one manifestation of a real problem.
Why is Yahoo peddling this manure?
Are they partisan too?
If anyone is that ill-mannered in my home, they will be thrown out, family or not.
We don’t need such bossy, nanny-statist clap-trap at our family gatherings. And the will would be changed the next morning.
“Pee-Wee” Rucker to the Voice of Reason, “I CAN’T HEAR YOU!”
Scratch a lib, reveal a Stalinist.
Fox isn’t right all the time, but they do tell both sides to an arguement. Whenever I watch the other news programs I have to quickly change the channel or end up throwing something through it.
Liberals HATE hearing the TRUTH about their disgusting agenda
Sure I have. On most military installations I’ve been to it’s been the default channel.
I use Yahoo as my e-mail provider, they had nothing to do with this as the e-mail was sent to me.
Posting rules require that section to be filled in.
I clicked on the yahoo link and it went to turnfoxoff. It already had a name on that data base so I just went ahead and said no one I have talked to is going to quit watching FOX. Oh, well, did my part.
Thank God we are who we are. We will have seven adults and seven children with us this Christmas. Of these fourteen, thirteen watch Fox all the time and the other one, a screaming liberal, does watch it about half and half with CNN. Surprisingly he complains that CNN is too biased.
Yahoo is notoriously left. Since I use AT&T Yahoo news page pops up.
To the Libs they only recognize two political schools of thought: Theirs and anyone to the right of them is a Conservative right wing nut case.
I recall seeing Fox News at a McDonalds ... in Utah :)
Right after the 2000 Presidential election, some Democrat pundit or politician made the statement that the reason Bush won was “Fox News allowed the Republicans to get their message out.”
What next? Are they going to try to stop us from saying "Merry Christmas" at our Christmas parties?
When someone says "Happy Holidays" to me, I respond "And Happy Holy Days to you."
Really tics some people off.
I think the R is a typo...it’s supposed to be an F.
Did you guess he worked for MoveOn? Poor thing. He does not have a clue as to what real life America is like.
I just wrote in there that I started the conversation with relatives, but that they argued back and got me to watch Fox, and that now I kind of like it.
The Case against Fox News (3 page pdf):
I’m surprised the author failed to describe the time-honored method of sticking one’s index fingers in ones ears and humming...
Well Frank Luntz is coming on with a focus group in real time.
Sounds like one of those LGBT things.
What I find amusing is that a few years ago, I went with my professional organization to do some lobbying on Capitol Hill & every EVERY office we visited had FNC on. We visited two Republicans that day (Santorum & Melissa Hart, former House member who lost to doughty Jason Altmire). So that means the Dems watch FNC, too. These people are so full of crap they stink. They know Fox is the only channel that actually has real stories. They just want to public to be uninformed.
This is right out of the Alinsky playbook. Start by organizing your friends and relatives. You could give all of them a copy of Mao’s little red book or Rules for Radicals. If you are successful, your little nephew might develop into a full fledged leftist radical, maybe even a community organizer, and from there the possibilities are endless.
“If they state something untrue, you can and should offer facts to correct the record when you can”
He must mean the facts supplied by MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Stewart, Colbert, Michael Moore, etc.
Colorofchange.org - hmmmm, isn’t that one of Van Jones’ favorite groups?
The libtards take themselves off the air by losing ratings, and they lose ratings because they continually lie to their audiences as they shill for their communist, America-hating Democrat party. Fox News came out of nowhere and quickly blew away the Democrat newsrooms. There's a reason for this - - Americans hunger for the truth, and for the first time a news organization came along to offer exactly that.
The verdict of the public is obvious and the evidence is clear, but mice like Rucker simply lack the capacity to deal with it and so their only recourse is to lie to themselves!
When someone in a business says “Happy Holidays” to me, I respond “Merry Christmas” and most of the times they reply, “Merry Christmas” with a big smile.
Depending on the clinic you are at, the Naval Hospital might have cartoon channel, Fox News, or CNN on. Seems to depend on the patient's preference. Besides, the one time that I had to watch MSNBC, my blood pressure wasn't too good. :-)
yes...if it is not playing in the lobby of the motel that I am staying in, it soon will be. If my doctors office does not have it on, it soon will have, our local Knights of Columbus has it on, the Eagles has it on. When I say it soon will have or will be, that means that as I come in I change the channel to suit myself....which means to Fox. In some cases, I no longer have to do so....when I gat there, Fox is already on.....that's called success!!!
“FNC is far more RINO/neocon that it is conservative.”
Some of the people on there are a lot better than others as conservatives. But FNC is the only one that always has both sides represented on panels, discussions, etc., AND it’s the only network I know of on basic tv (cable and non-cable networks) that cover many stories no one else does, and where we get the conservative view fairly voiced.
Or, you might hear about how FOX News is killing PMSNC and CNN in the ratings for the past five consecutive years because most of it’s veiwers are finally able to hear all three sides of the story instead of the one that is coming from the DNC/National Socialist Party.
Fox News is on TV #3 out of 7 at my gym.
The machines in front of it, 3 rows of them, are ALWAYS in use. CNN is #7 - you can hear the crickets chirp down there.
It is on every plasma big screen in the medical clinics and offices. Also in my civilian Dr office wating room every single time I am there.
“and the other one, a screaming liberal, does watch it about half and half with CNN. Surprisingly he complains that CNN is too biased.”
I’d say there’s hope for him on two counts - one, if he were a “screaming” liberal, he’d be watching only MSNBC which feature the literal, i.e. Schultz, Maddow, Matthews and others (as does my brother-in-law who, sadly, has brainwashed my sister and, until rather recently, my nephew - although he now seems to be seeing the light).
Second, if he complains that CNN is too biased, well, they are! (Unless he means they’re too right-biased, in which case, keep working on him:-)
It’s my homepage. Yahoo is whatever you want it to be.
Heh. Mrs. Liberty and I have yet to stay at a hotel that has MSNBC. They just don't carry it...lol
