Ivory Wave bath salts -- another way to get high

OGDEN -- A new product being marketed as bath salts but can be used similar to cocaine is slowly making its way through the Top of Utah, law enforcement officials say.

The product goes by many names, but is most commonly known as Ivory Wave. It is packaged as bath salts, but a quick web search shows many are snorting or injecting the product to get a high similar to, or even more intense than, cocaine.

Weber-Morgan Drug Strike Force Lt. Darin Parke said his officers have seen the drug recently while executing search warrants.

"We've seen it during our raids," he said. "It's not illegal, so people are pretty open about it."

Parke said while officers have seen instances of it, they haven't received a lot of information from many people about it.

Ogden Police Lt. Scott Conley said they have begun seeing the bath salts as well, but not in high numbers.

"We're hearing about it, and seeing it a little bit," he said.

The Associated Press reports that four Utahns have been hospitalized as of last week because of the effects of the drug.

How does a reporter write this story and never say what the chemicals in Ivory Wave are?

from wiki - “Samples of the drug have been reported to contain the substituted cathinone derivative MDPV as well as the local anesthetic lignocaine.[4] Additionally, Ivory Wave has also been speculated to contain WIN 35,428 and Pentylone,[5][6][7][8] though the presence of these chemicals has yet to be demonstrated.”

Just amazes me the stupid things people do to get high. I have a gas well across the street from me. And like all gas wells they have a large overflow tank to hold the contaminates. The smell is horrible. Anyway about 8 years ago a teenager was found dead with his head in the hatch. He was sniffing the fumes to get high and passed out and died from asphyxiation.

Yet another example of the futility of trying to keep people from getting high/drunk/stoned.

Ivory Wave is readily available to buy in Scottish “Head Shops”, and also through a number of unregulated online outlets. One – a European website – boasted that the drug would “blow your mind” despite warning that “it is strong for sure”. Jim Sherval, a specialist in public health for NHS Lothian warned that people could “never be certain” what was contained in these “legal highs”.

He said: “The chemicals used in legal highs change all the time so people can never be certain what they are actually taking and what the effects might be. “In most cases, the products have not been tested, so little is known about how toxic they are. “It is important that people understand that just because a substance is legal or claimed to be legal does not mean that it is safe.

“We need to get across the message that these legal highs pose a real danger.” Lesley Hinds, health spokeswoman for the Labour group at City of Edinburgh Council, added: “This is very worrying. “We need to be careful not to glamorise these names, but it is important that people are aware of the dangers because at this stage we don’t know what long-term impacts it could have.”

What happens if you actually use it as bath salts?

Yet another example of the futility of trying to keep people from getting high/drunk/stoned.

It is a special problem in Utah because of their strict guidelines regarding tobacco, caffeine and alcohol in the Mormon church. Many folks I know use cocaine and drugs like this one as it is not spelled out specifically in their "Word of Wisdom".

Just run it through your coffee grinder first. Try not to take the whole bar all at once.

This is in Florida also. Sold as bath salts in a packet so small you there wouldn’t be enough to soak a finger. Also pot sold as incense. I believe this was made illegal in the last couple of weeks.
The bath salts are sold in “tobacco shops” and even 7-11 type stores.
“Bath salts” being injected is pretty scary stuff.

Does this mean that “Mr. Bubble” is a gateway drug?
