Since the season is more than month away, and information is incomplete, this is a preliminary post. When more information develops, I'll post the "formal" announcement.
Official Survivor site at CBS
Survivor: Redemption Island is the 22nd season of Survivor. It begins Wednesday, February 16, 2011 on CBS.
This season introduces a new twist:
From Wikipedia: When a contestant is voted off their tribe, instead of leaving the game, they are taken to the area known as Redemption Island. There, they will have to sustain themselves in the same manner as when they were with their tribe, living on limited food and water supplies and shelter. When the next contestant is voted off, they are also sent to Redemption Island, and the two people will face off in a duel challenge. The winner remains in the game, living at Redemption Island, while the loser is finally removed from the game. At pre-determined points in the game, the person at Redemption Island will have a chance to return to the game and be reunited with the remaining players in the game.
There is also a rule change. If a player quits during the jury phase, the producers reserve the right to not allow that player to serve on the jury.
Here is a video from last season's finale where Jeff Probst explains the twist.
This season takes place in the same location as last season: in the vicinity of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
CBS has announced sixteen of the eighteen players for this season. The other two players yet to be named will be "former castaways." The rumors are that those two players will be Rob Mariano (Boston Rob) and Russell Hantz - and that they will each captain a team (video). If true, this would be the third appearance for Russell and the fourth appearance for Boston Rob.
Ten of the sixteen players are from Southern California.
Ometepe Tribe: Andrea, Ashley, Francesca, Grant, Kristina, Matt, Natalie, Phillip
Zapatera Tribe: David, Julie, Krista, Mike, Ralph, Sarita, Stephanie, Steve

As of Survivor: Nicaragua, this is a new Survivor ping list. The old list is no longer available, so I would appreciate it if any of you could ping interested parties to this thread. Thank you. :)
If you wish to be added to or removed from the ping list, please let me know.
Russell! Boston Rob! Great!
Ooh, if there is a Survivor ping list, put me on it. I love Survivor.
10 FROM SOUTHERN CA?
Wonder how many of them are mactors not real fans of the show?
Oh, well, time to start checking things out. Thanks for the ping.
BR and Russell as Captains? They better hope the other players are mactors and don’t know who they are.
But then everyone knew what/who Sandra was and she took the prize both times.
There's some early outers, that's for sure. It's a real shame that I now look more towards who's going to get voted out than who'd likely win.
Boston Retard! Nnnoooooooooooooooooo!!!!
This dork is way past his 15 mins. Please, no.
Fast check - two students, one pre-law; two lawyers, two med field, 1 yoga instructor, 1 dancer, 1 waitress, 1 fireperson, 1 farmer, 2 exec types, a phar rep, former Marine and former NFL football player.
Hey, he’s seen a quick and easy way to bring home the bacon and get face time. Nice gig if you can get it.
You’re added. :)
Sandra had a lot of fans. I was NOT one of them. I was disgusted when she won each time.
He should be on “The Biggest Loser” vs Obama. It would be a close race.
Still reviewing the players. The NFL is also a yoga instructor. Is there another one?
Fortunately it's unlikely that Homo Hatch is one of the "yet to be unnamed" since he's still fighting to stay out of jail. I hope it's "coach" and that one of the contestants take him off camera and drowns him or pushes him off a cliff.........
Grant is the Yoga instructor. Steve is the former NFL pro and his bio does not say anything about Yoga.
Don’t forget this season is already in the can - and has been for a couple of months.
The spoilers have been on the hunt since they all got back.
That is true but I don't think that Homo Hatch would have been granted permission to leave the country since he is now working on his appeals..........
please add me to ping list...thanks
22st 22nd season...
You’re added. :)
