Posted on 01/16/2011 7:36:24 AM PST by JNRoberts
I notice the honor guard all turn at once except for 1. He seems to pause intentionally, then turn much slower than the others. Was this intentional or a mess up?
It’s all about keeping the honor guard line “in line” and uniform...if he turned at the same pace as the others did it would throw the symetry of the “line” off.
It didn’t look intentional to me, it looked like the guy missed the cue.
I am with you.
Maybe he was the one giving the commands? He gives the right face command to the others and then turns himself?
clearly an error.. he missed the cue
He screwed up.
And in the grand scheme of thing, this is a big deal worth being made of it because??????
That would be good....it almost seems intentional. He turns much slower. If it’s a mess up, well, I can only compare it to the taps player at the JFK funeral....almost seemed like divine providence for that taps player to miss a key....it was just a bad time for America that weekend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2h3z3Jqqo0
I can always count on Jerks to show up. Never fail.
I asked a simple question.
The jerk is the one that’s getting all knicker-knotted over something so infinitely trivial.
Hint: I ain’t the jerk here.
Why do you hate the military?
No, it’s just a simple and very legitimate question. Just like you are a simple and legitimate jerk. There’s one in every crowd.
No, I love the military...Jerk #2 shows up.
A big deal isn’t being made of it by this Freeper. They are simply asking a question.
Look at the parenthetical after my name on my earlier comment. :)
>>>A big deal isnt being made of it by this Freeper. They are simply asking a question.
Oh gee, my bagel didn’t have enough “everything” to be an everything bagel... I think I’ll run to my computer and make a post on Free Republic to ask why....
In the grand scheme of things it really is not a big deal.. probably would have been "cut" from the video except for the fact that the "audio" track would have been worse.. but then it was a "live broadcast"... personally I prefer raw video.. the "real deal" so to speak. I could have edited this video and make myself look better but I posted it "as is" imperfections and all.... I asked a young sergeant if he was okay with me "embarrasing him" a little and help me motivate the class.. LOL he was a good sport and I was shooting from the hip.. LOL
nobody else in the class except the young Sergeant and the soldier I asked to video knew what was coming...... LOL .. The demonstrator obviously did not know what I was going to do.... truthfully.. neither did I... LOL
Thanks Drew. I love the Military, so much, I kind of wish it was intentional, that there was a meaning to it. i.e. missing man formation. But if it is a mess up......that’s ok too because like Taps at JFK, it shows the humanity, the imperfection of humannity even at a sacred time. We expect the military to be precision, and it is....but when they mess up.....it shows they are human too. Perhaps moved by emotions, grief, God bless them.
The Poster needs to call the Military and ask them....wasted time coming to this thread.
He DID call the military ... I got the call .. :)
Madison....do I understand you to believe they actually did all turn at once, but the problem is with the video? Is that possible? Isn’t it LIVE?
1rudeboy's just playing.
He's mostly a decent sort, but don't tell him I said that. ;-)
When was that filmed? They all looked younger.
well, the original video was the week of 9/11. Is that what you are asking?
LOL - right on.
I wish I could view your video. I wanted to see it the other day when you pinged me to it as well.
However, I am still in "that place" and I know you're aware of the bandwidth situation here. ;-)
I'm going to bookmark the link so I can view it next time I'm home.
Maybe it’s live, but it seems to be jagged. Could just be my computer. Hard to know if someone is “off cue” if the video is jagged.
Yes I was asking when this was filmed. I see the senior Bushs from time to time and I was struck by how young they look in this video.
Dose the Pin move as fast as the Pencil ?
I was Honor Guard in the Navy Depending on what turn is being made left right or center turn any of the three has a pivot point .
Sorry i didn't see the Honor Guard Procession you were speaking of but if one person is out of march step while turning it can make it look like it was screwed up.
If the Turn was executed wrong that's a whole other matter someone hasn't been drilled enough or wasn't concentrating on the Business at hand.
Atomic, appreciate the sincere reply. I think if you were able to see the video, you would see that, while I understand your analogy, this would not be the case here because all of the other soldiers turned at precisely the same time. And they did so rather rapidly.
The last one paused, then turned much slower which made me wonder if there was a significance to it. Not only that he didn’t turn with the rest......but the much slower turn.
I do appreciate the sincere attempts to explain. I am beginning to think it was just a mess up but as i said...that is a blessing too in showing the humanity , the imperfect precision, the imperfect humanity even at our most sacred times.....even missing man reflects that to some degree although I realize the missing jet represents the fallen soldier.....and that is certainly imperfect humanity.....thanks again.
I can imagine how this guy felt. Let's not further embarrass one of our own.
The “Right Face” was executed while the audience was singing the lead man in the column formation obviously missed the cue.. which was either a “Right Face” command given by a team member or some other cue that he simply missed
ok, that’s nice. Since you know everything alread and never have questions. Funny to me, you’re spending your time on this thread....must be worth something
Thanks Logical, I admire your service. THey played Taps at my Pop’s funeral, Korea Vet. I’ll never forget it. Salute!
I can’t see the video right now but what it sounds like you are describing a lot of standard honor guard movements at a funeral where the last member is the last to break the line. For example, when the NPB (non commissioned officer in charge of pallbearers) calls Port, Arms. The first three members turn Port Arms, then the fourth member holds a three count before turning. During a funeral, when calling Fallout, the seventh member of the line holds and takes position next to the NPB.
As for the why, simply tradition. It does give an air of honor though as the last member still is facing the family or casket (depending on the time of the move) and slowly turns instead of the whole formation turning at once.
I did it with my entire battalion once. Kinda stands out in a brigade formation. 8^) So I feel for the kid ... Fortune de guerre. LoL
Looks like a simple mistake to me. He was at the end of the line with his back to the others. I think he just missed or misunderstood the cue for the turn. I didn’t hear or see a command. Wonder if they had a point in the music/song they were supposed to turn on.
He’s the only one who couldn’t see any of the others, and the background sounds were significant. I give him a human pass.
I’d be more apt (though not likely) to find fault in how, after they turn, some of them start “squidging” their feet, perhaps in the knowledge that their brand new dress shoes hurt like heck, and they may be stuck like that for a while. :)
I think he missed the order to turn. It looked to me like the guy on the left gave the order and with the music he just may not have heard the command.
>>>It does give an air of honor though as the last member still is facing the family or casket (depending on the time of the move) and slowly turns instead of the whole formation turning at once.>>>>
Mnehring.....what a beautiful thought. Thank you so much for this. Hopefully, we learn something new every day and this is something I am proud to know about our military. What sets America apart? The value we place on a human life, the dignity of a person even in death...especially a soldier. Thank You.
Sounds very plausible to me. That way someone is "regarding" the family/casket for the fullest extent possible - and even when he turns away it isn't just a businesslike quick turn.
It’s cool I made my fair share of mistakes when i was in i know i wasn’t the only one lol and i wasn’t the last God Bless them all It happens....
