If I remember correctly, this idea was that third-world families wouldn't need to have a dozen kids to count on two or three surviving to adulthood, thus the number of kids per family would drop just as they have in the first-world.

I've seen some people who thought that this was Gates big plan to kill people with vaccines.

OK I can see that. He was mixing positive factors: vaccines & health care with negative factors like: family murdering to estimate a net future growth rate.

DepoProvera, aka the shot for the stupid, is a long acting birth control.

So, when is Billy-boy going to start preaching to China, where all this CO2 comes from?

Wouldn’t all plants on earth die without CO2?

And what produces the oxygen that we breath?

His logic is flawed - making people healthier with vaccination and better health care is going to increase populations because life spans will increase meaning their are more people for a longer amount of time.

"Gates Foundation responds: "If you improve health in a society ... surprisingly, population growth goes down," Gates told CNN in 2008.

The speech is on controlling carbon emissions and that unless we do something the will continue to grow.

The statement was made in the context of his overall argument is that population is going to grow by 9 billion and that there is not much we can do about that, at most we could lower the growth by 10=15%. So Gates concludes we need to change our energy sources to sources that emit less carbon.

If you were going to use vaccines to reduce the population, you could get a lot more than a 10-15% reduction in growth. Which led me to conclude before the Gates Foundation ever defended the comment, that Gates was being misunderstood and quoted out of context.

But then who would be left to buy his crappy software? Oh wait! It wouldn’t matter! He already has hundreds of billions of dollars. Still, depopulation could put a real crunch on the availability of servants and farmers, so ol’ Bill might find his billions wouldn’t buy help or food.

Read the link I posted in post 46. Gates views all three as reducing population growth. His view is that as child mortality goes down, and health improves, that people naturally have fewer children. And apparently this was something he advocated long before he made the questionable comment.

His flawed logic doesn’t end there. He’s (we could argue whether it’s unwittingly, or not) going to force standards on other cultures he’s seeking to “improve” and “protect.” This is only accomplished by changing them. They’ll either integrate or become a millstone around the necks of other “civilized” and “enlightened” cultures, since they would require more resources than they produce. At that point, they’d run the risk of being viewed as “human weeds,” just as previous progressives did.

Gates indicated that we need to work on “...reproductive health services...” when talking about reducing the growth of population. “reproductive health services”, in this context, is code for ABORTION.

I think condoms, birth control, and abstinence programs are a more likely meaning in that context. He didn't say abortion, and I don't think he meant abortion.

Again, he basically concluded you couldn't stop the population growth so you need to change the sources of energy.

It's also a very effective libido killer, great for marriage!

Bill Gates, until now, your statements and character belonged in this old school video game...

Danny, we’re not idiots. We know what leftists like Gates mean when they say “reproductive health services.”

It could just as easily mean "birth control" and would fit in the context better. In fact, given his earlier comments on reducing child mortality leading to reduced population growth, it could mean nothing more than reducing infant mortality.

The only reason to assume that he meant abortion is that you hate the guy. I don't like the guy's politics either, but I don't want to see anyone slandered.
