My Love is Like a Red Red Rose
YouTube ^ | May 13, 2006 | Dayfornight

0, my love is like a red, red rose, that's newly sprung in June. 0, my love is like a melody, that's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair thou art, my bonnie lass, so deep in love am I, And I will love thee still, my dear, till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, and the rocks melt wi' the sun! And I will love thee still, my dear, while the sands of life shall run.

And fare the weel, my only love! And fare the well awhile! And I will come again, my love. Tho it were ten thousand mile!

Bobby Burns was born in Alloway, Scotland, on January 25, 1759. I wonder if that's Julian or Gregorian? If I were going to take the low road and piss and moan about his faults, I'd probably just post this link: Wonder of wonders, a city now associated with drunken Irishmen -- Boston Mass -- has a statue to the man: And there's a recipe there for Scotch Eggs. Just adding to the catalog, not sending a general distribution.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.

In Soviet Russia, Burns was elevated as the archetypal poet of the people. A new translation of Burns proved enormously popular. The Soviet Union was the first country in the world to honour Burns with a commemorative stamp in 1956.

The English Romantic poets were a strange bunch. Blake was an anarchist, If Shelley had lived longer he probably would have been a communist.
