ICLEI USA issues the following statement from Mayor Patrick Hays, City of North Little Rock, AR, Corporate President and Chair of Board of Directors Jan 26, 2011
Washington, D.C.- President Obama made some significant announcements during his State of the Union Address to the nation, chief among them; 80 percent of Americas electricity should come from clean energy by 2035; America should have one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015; and 80% of Americans should have access to high-speed rail within 25 years.
President Obama called on the nation to drastically curb its dependence on energy from fossil fuels and foster clean energy through a number of bold and innovative proposals. We applaud his challenge to produce 80% of Americas electricity from clean energy sources by 2035, as well as having one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. As the President looks to win the future, we call on him to recognize and support the nations vast network of clean energy innovation factories our local communities.
The actions proposed by the President will clearly put a 21st Century America on the right track to bolstering much needed job creation and clean tech innovation, while helping to build healthier communities and protect the environment.
Oh, and we can't afford it.
Ping.
Maybe not, considering acronomology is a non existing word in my frikin encyclopedic unabridged dictionary. I am joining the ISTBMC.
I just had to find out what ICLEI meant.
Note the enigmatic, subtler acronym, which masks the dreaded word 'environmental,' which can always be relied to consist of half a dozen neurotics out to control the world, or as much of it as they can persuade to drink the ignorance kool-aid.
"Sustainability" has more of the illusion that it might be voluntary.
“We applaud his challenge to produce 80% of Americas electricity from clean energy sources by 2035”
This assumes, of course, an 80% unemployment rate.
This high speed rail crap is just another way to give China business.
They already beat Seiemens in Sacramento they will soon have all train contracts with US Gov tied up.
How did we get this stupid?
