Background: In 1986 an amendment called "The Hughes Amendment" was allegedly attached to wider firearms legislation in The House and passed. This amendment made unlawful the private ownership of machine guns manufactured after 1986.
Today, you can own a machine gun, but the Hughes Amendment, H.A.#777, effectively created a "sinking stock" of such weapons that will eventually dwindle to zero as they wear out. Hundreds of people have been convicted of violating this law since, some when their weapons have malfunctioned rather than being intentionally modified.
There's a problem with this law, however. It appears that the amendment was never actually passed.
Archival footage of the actual House session has been found and is reproduced here.
Note who's standing up there with the gavel. That's Chairman Rangel. Yes, that Charlie Rangel. And by the way, you can see quite-clearly that The House Committee at the time was damn close to being in full-on revolt at the time Rangel was allegedly "Chairing" it!
Watch the video. It is quite clear that not only did the voice vote on the amendment fail but in addition it appears, if someone hasn't tampered with this video, that there was an electronic recorded vote that went down on the question as well. (more at link)

Now we can.
Better late than never...
Yeah, and do 10 years in a federal pen like one of my friends!!
That’s why that side plate is still sitting at 80% finished.
It’s a helluva thing that side plate is still sitting at 80%
when you have every right to fnish it!!!
Doesn’t matter.
We haven’t been a country of laws for a while, but regulations. The BATF boys will kill you and your dog if you build one.
Not likely to succeed. Google "enrolled bill doctrine."
Look at it the proper way: how many laws on the books don’t mean spit, because Dem JUDGES ignored the clear meaning of the statutes and substituted new “interpretations” that became controlling “case law”?
A government only lasts while people still believe in it. Once that is gone, they can only retain power through fear and force. Guess which side of that equation we are currently on?
Hmmm things like the NICS implementation law wasnt the idea that the data for those checks to be destroyed Immediately?
My apologies if my earlier comment sounded wrong by the way I worded it my intention was to point out that it seems like a lot of law passed by the dems is by underhanded methods things like Obamacare.
But you have a good point it does seem like if the dems cant pass their agenda by legislative action they use judicial action which his often contrary to the will of the people or the Constitution.
