Steelers teams of past, present linked by pedigree
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | 1-30-2011 | Scott Brown

Mahogany shelves are filled with neatly lined books. Pictures that cover an adjacent wall also tell the history of the Steelers.

But what makes the second-floor room at Steelers headquarters one of the most unique libraries on the planet: Six Lombardi Trophies are displayed in a row, and they have the same effect as a six-car pile-up on the Parkway.

Looters of the public purse. Should be re-named Stealers.

>>One of the greatest sports fanchises of all time.<<

Next Sunday the 2 most storied sports franchises in the NFL are meeting.

I have loved both teams since I was a kid, but since I lived on Pittsburgh for about a year, I am slightly rooting more for the Steelers.

I am from L.A. so I can root for anyone I want. When I move to Dallas later this I assume they will staple (or nail) a Cowboys sticker to my forehead...

Truly a premier franchise, but as with the Yankees, being a fan of the franchise is the path of least resistance and therefore generally unimpressive.

There’s also the matter of their franchise QB being a serial sexual predator.

I think the owner (Rooney ?) was an old man when the Steelers finally won the Big One. They’ve more than made up for lost time since then.

Don’t care how many trophies they collect. The Rooney rule is absurd and their overt support for Obama is unforgivable.

Funny thing is, they were one of the worst franchises in the NFL for nearly the first 40 years of their existence. They were the team who kept Ted Marchibroda and cut Johnny Unitas. They didn’t have a single playoff appearance from 1933-1972.

I believe one of the Rooney brothers is a Republican. As for the Rooney rule, the NFL is a private business so they can set their own standards. It’s not like it’s a federal law or anything and the rule has worked out pretty well for the Steelers with Tomlin.

Tomlin wasn't hired due to the rule....Rooney said so himself. While it may not be imposed federally, they could have their anti-trust exemption pulled. It's been threatened for less. While it's fully within their rights to agree on internal rules for their organization, it doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

There's a specific person you want for the job. However, due to the fact he's white, you have to go through the dishonest motions of interviewing people you have no intention of hiring. It's the definition of absurd.

I know there are excuses for three of Roethlisberger’s incidents with a fourth often ignored. Of course, there is the obvious fact that people who are innocent of sexual assualt will have to make exactly zero excuses in their lifetime. Steeler fans that make excuses for them (and James Harrison, who did the good Christian thing and smacked around his girlfriend) are simply delusional.

Roethlisberger supplied alcohol to an underage girl and had sex with her in a club bathroom. Few public investigations have been as botched as this one, so don’t even begin to point to the lack of charges as evidence of innocence.

My car has been vandalized due to my support of the Yankees. I don’t think there is a more hated team in all of sports.

Hell, I drove through Philadelphia traffic a few years back and a truckload full of overweight chain-smoking trailer parkers saw my Yankees hat (or my sticker, I’m not sure). They proceeded to pull out a magic marker and a piece of paper (why this was handy in the truck I’m not sure) and scrawl YAN...KEES...SUCK on three separate lines on the paper and hold it out the window, behind or to the side, to make sure I could see. They did this for about 30 minutes while we were in traffic. I’m not even sure what to say about that.

Now it can be told. Art Rooney threatened to have my uncle wiped out when my uncle tried to move his numbers game from Wiley Ave. (the hill) to the North Side.
That is how Rooney got the money to buy the football team. Rooney had 8 runners to take book on the norside.

As a matter of fact, genius, there WERE no charges and will BE no court case. Upon investigation it was decided that no evidence of a crime existed. In other words, some classy “I want big money for a little piece of a$$” failed in her attempt at extortion. Although top-flight quarterbacks are rare, skank females will be with us always.

please, spare us your excuses - the chief problem is that the girl was too bombed to remember what went on while mr. classy had two of his boys blocking the bathroom door. rapistburger is a good QB, but he's a scumbag.

Not exactly. 1972 was their first playoff season. That was the year of the Immaculate Reception. I was in an end zone seat behind the Steelers. The next week, we played the Dolphins in the AFC championship. It was 72 friggin’ degrees in Pittsburgh in late December!!! Unbelievable!! I went to the game in a short sleeve shirt. That was the Dolphins perfect season and they had to resort to a fake punt to beat us! 15 degree Pittsburgh weather and the 72’ Dolphins might have been 15-1 and the Steelers could have gone to the Super Bowl. Seems God was a Dolphins fan that year.

Barry Hussein Soetero and AlGore were given Nobel prizes just as the Steelers have been given two Super Bowls. It does not mean they earned them in any way. The only pedigree the Steelers have is they rely on the refs to win playoff games. The refs screwed Dallas out of one Super Bowl in the ‘70s and the Seahawks got ripped off a few years ago by the most incompetent and biased pro-Steeler officiating ever seen by NFL fans. The Steelers and their crappy biased refs belong in the NBA, not the NFL.

Gloat away. The fans of all the other NFL teams that earn their victories know better.

There’s also the fact that the bathroom was scrubbed for probably the first time in the club’s existence. Oh, and a star-struck police officer who posed for pictures with Ben hours before he was approached by the victim immediately sided with Roethlisberger, swearing and insulting her. He also informed them that Roethlisberger has a lot of money and a case wouldn’t go anywhere. He eventually resigned under threat of being fired.

The guy is as guilty as can be. Yet here we have these jackass Steeler fans essentially saying a) it’s OK to rape intoxicated women and b) promiscuous women can’t choose who they sleep with. It’s sickening and it’s even more pathetic that it’s all because of a little brown leather ball.

Hell yeah, let's give him a fair trial and then hang him.

Evidence, we don't need no stinken evidence, we KNOW he's guilty, the press told us.

You're not a Stiller fan, so Ben's guilty because you saw it on TV, or were you there, in the bathroom when Ben had sex with a twenty year old woman.

Choke on this.

Am i still hearing from the girly men in Seattle about the refs. Get over it the steelers beat their a**es fair and square and the steelers won. No ref made any call any different for either team. In fact if one looks at the game it is even in the way of bad calls. Seattle lost face and find a corner to cry in.

This is sports not political. If you want to talk about rules lets go talk about the anti Steelers rules. The defense was so dominant in the 70’s they made rules to lessen their devastating effect on other teams. No more head slap, no tackling with the helmet, they put dresses on the quarterbacks like Tommy Prady. The league lined up the refs for years against the steelers but we never complained we just go out and win. Smash the ball down the teams throat and run them over. One of if not the greatest quarterback of all time Terry Bradshaw has four rings and i think only Montana a local Pittsburgh area kid does too. We are the city of champions.

I can’t tell if you’re actually this stupid or you’re just being satirical. You can never tell with Pittsburgh fans (and I suspect you’re a native as well).

If you think rape or sexual assault is this trivial, then I hope your wife/daughter/granddaughter finds herself in a seedy bathroom with Ben Roethlisberger and his exposed genitalia. We’ll see what you think of it then.

I am sure if them rednecks in Georgia could have charged him they would have but they could not do so since he committed no crime. As for the Vegas affair nothing there was ever even considered criminal in any manner. Once again no crime was committed.

This is pretty chilling. While some Steeler fans are just simply proud, I've never heard one that made comments justifying what Roethlisberger did.

This sounds exactly like what Clinton hacks said in the 90s about Bill's extracurricular activities.

That't not all they did.

I watched a documentary called Cocaine Cowboys last year and it chronicled a guy named Jon Roberts who was the main coke distributer for Griselda Blanco in Miami in the 70s.

He said that during a party he had the Friday before Super Bowl X he had the entire Steeler offensive line in his living room snorting coke off of his coffee table.
