Groundhog Day Storm May Affect More than 100 Million People
Accuweather.com ^ | Jan 30, 2011 | Alex Sosnowski

A large winter storm forecast to unfold could adversely affect more than 100 million people this week from the Rockies to the Plains, South, Midwest and Northeast, if it develops to its full potential.

The latest indications continue to point toward a large storm forming amidst a building temperature contrast over the middle of the nation. Precipitation and strong cold air/warm air circulation around that storm will affect many millions of people from the interior West to the Atlantic Coast as next week progresses.

We are calling this system the Groundhog Day storm, and it will likely severely impact ground travel, and lead to canceled flights, school delays and closures. The storm is not only a concern for Wednesday, but for much of the week as the system moves along.

Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

It’s a nuisance and I hate it with passion—I’m not much good when the temperature falls below about 70—but look at the bright side: the more of this kind of thing there is, the less likely people are going to be willing to sit still for preaching and taxes re: “global warming”.

Firewood stacked and ready !

Due to the colder winter than expected, had to refresh wood stock yesterday, hardly able to get out of bed today, ooooouch !!!

Some in my area have $700.00 power bill, heat pumps only. :-( poor soles.

We pay nine cents per kilowatt which is cheap compared to other areas. This about to change beginning in April, our power Co. is starting what they call “peak usage” which will raise rate to twenty seven cent per kilowatt. In summer from four PM to twelve mid-night is considered peak usage. I told my wife we would live in the basement in the summer and upstairs in the winter, LOL !

As O-bam-ass promised, your power rates are going to rise.
Kill all the Coal burning power producers and build no Nuclear Power Plants. Wind and Sun isn’t isn’t going to get it done. Will Americans ever get enough of this crap????

Alex Sosnowski, Expert Senior Meteorologist What a name for a meteorologist. I wonder if that's what's on his driver's license.

Reminds me of a guy we had on TV when I was growing up. He was the weatherman for on of the local TV stations in Tampa/St. Pete Florida. His name was Sonny Daye. And I believe that was actually on his driver's license.

I moved half a pickup load up by the house this morning from the storage stack near the lake front. This looks to be some of my very old firewood, full of dust and a few live spiders. I made sure to slam each piece on the gravel to bump off the critters. I hate to use insecticide but may have to...

Now the 6-8 feet piles of snow on each corner will be 8-10 feet. Our parking lots are a mess.

I’m in the suburbs of Long Island, we have our front and back yards to put the snow. Where the heck is NYC going to put it?

My boss has a place in NYC and he says it’s a mess....there’s no where to put the snow!

The one thing I am thankful for is my Ford Explorer, 8v all wheel drive that gets me to and from safely. He’s a hungry beast, but I don’t care. I love him because he keeps me safe.

If you live in the southeast during 'cane season: Plywood.

Yep...home is near the Gulf of Mexico and I did have my front windows boarded up with plywood when a big one was on the way once.

Then, it turned north at the last minute and we barely got anytyhing from it. :)

And there's this big solar mass ejection scheduled for launch and it's going to get here right at the same time as the storm hits ~ hmm.

We won't be able to see the auroras through the clouds.

I moved half a pickup load up by the house this morning from the storage stack near the lake front.

Trying something different this winter.
Having access to several logging Co’s in our area I have purchased fresh logs delivered, cut them the size needed for my wood burner. A tan-tum load coast me two hundred fifty dollars, should be able to get five to six pick-up loads ?
At sixty seven I’m still able to do this manual labor, and besides, I consider this therapeutic to my health, LOL !
I usually go to my Bro’s farm and cut the trees myself, but
have found this to be a lot of dangerous work at my age.

Hopefully as long as my health allows, I will continue to defeat the power Co’s and the Federal Gov.?

Looks like we’re in for about 12 inches of snow in southern WI accumulating on Monday and Tuesday. Mid-week the night temp falls to -10.

When we built new in ‘02, we put in a ground source heat pump with the thermal floor option and really don't need to burn wood. But because we have oak and hickory falling out of the ground hereabouts, it's a shame to let it go to waste.

We have to contact the tour next week and I’ll find out
then. I hope they were at least able to fly out to Jerusalem as we were planning.
