PS, putting down an animal for reasons of infirm health, extreme old age, or terminal illness is one thing. Doing so because the owner is either A.) a cheapskate, B.) claims "I can't afford to keep him", or C.) no longer wants the animal is a horse of a different color and totally and completely inexcusable.

Oh I agree. That is apparently what happened here. It also happens every single day at shelters across this country.
