The evil white stuff is invading us again and Al Gore is not here, in his position as High Priest to utter incantations and save us from the CO2 generated from $3.00 + GAS required to run our snow blowers.

My Old Man called the Boise area the Banana belt. The last year before I was exiled the temps went up to 120 kind of warm but it was a great place to grow up and develop a political view point’

I bet it was.

Pretty big town now.

After all these years I finally picked up Stegner’s novel “Angle of Repose” which I hadn’t previously realized was set, quite a bit of it anyway, in early-development era Boise.

Even back then the tough hombres that wanted to build the place up were mesmerized by the warmth and beauty of the place...but they needed water and they broke lots of fortunes and lots of men trying to get it there.

Anyway pleased to make your acquaintance.

For a Gibson, you need to have cocktail onions, and I guess I just prefer olives. But I definitely agree about gin: it seems innocuous, and wonderfully floral besides, but unless consumed in moderation can lead to all manner of trouble.

My wife won't go near the stuff; she prefers vodka... which come to think of it was more than somewhat involved in a sequence of events that led to my daughter's coming in to being. Long story short: we'd come back from my dad's funeral, to a wake where his family and friends did precisely what he would have approved of: laughing, crying and toasting his memory with drinks and song. Our comfort that night gave him a grandchild he never knew... but I have made certain that she knows all about him and I love her madly: for both of us, always.

Beautiful photo... did you take it?

I like a few weeks of winter each year, but here in Connecticut (especially in the northern half of the state) winter lingers for far longer than just a few weeks. I've had my fill of this miserable winter and the constant snow and ice storms every few days, and all the hardships and expense attached to those storms. Wish I could just hibernate in Florida from now til May 1st...

Yeah that’s my view of the lake.

Winter would be awesome if we could get snow and ice at 70 degrees or so but yeah its getting old. We have another two months of the crap here.

Anyone who likes winter or even remotely suggests that snow is beautiful should stay well away from me. I will rip out your throat.
I had to miss a day from the office Wednesday at the worst possible time..closing for the month, because an ice-clogged gutter pipe leading from the roof resulted in a flood in my bedroom. All my small electronics were ruined. I had to discard lots of expensive makeup items and there was potting soil from my plants all over the place. Feh!

It Is Snowing In Central NH And We Are Going To Die!

With the 20 inches we got in our latest storm here in Columbia, MO
I recall the Bruce Willis line from the original “Die Hard”:
“Welcome to the party pal!”

But I do admit y’all do get really hit with snow in New Hampshire.

OMG, I'm so sorry to hear about your flood! That is truly awful. Let me guess: the potting soil turned into a big muddy mess, right? Ugh...

Actually a similar thing happened to us on Sunday - an ice-clogged vent pipe shifted on our roof due to the weight of all the snow and ice. The pipe separated and water started pouring down through the walls.

Fortunately we caught it in time (and hubby went up to the attic to fix the pipe), although some water did get through and did a little damage (stained ceilings). We're just lucky it wasn't worse - that leaking took place just a few feet away from the computer I'm typing on now... could have been a disaster.

It's snowing here yet again as I type this. Enough already!!

Truly beautiful! Your photo would make a great Christmas card! :-)

I meant that it "would be nice" to have a much shorter winter, and a much earlier spring, if that makes sense. Here in NW Connecticut, we can expect snow anytime starting around Thanksgiving. However the "real Spring" - ie when all the grass is green, flowers blooming, etc. - doesn't really happen here until about May 1st. (Mud season is March and April)

Waaay too long a winter for me... I need to move to a southern state someday!
