Accused Killer Joran van der Sloot,, Stabs Prison Guard in Escape Attempt
Gather ^ | 2/4/11

Natalie Holloway murder suspect, Joran van der Sloot, has been ominously quiet for quite a while. That's not surprising since he's been languishing in Peru's Miguel Castro Castro prison since June awaiting the completion of the investigation of Stephany Flores's murder. On January 15th however, Van der Sloot suddenly decided to lunge back into the headlines by stabbing a guard and then attempting to hold him hostage in a crazy, and therefore unsuccessful attempt to break out of prison.

According to the National Enquirer, Van der Sloot suddenly "freaked out" when guard, Luis Gavancho, brought a tray of food into his cell. Joran threw the tray against the wall, and when Gavancho tried to subdue him, he stabbed the prison guard in the face with a homemade "shiv." When other guards arrived on the scene, they found Joran holding the bloody Gavancho in a choke hold while "wielding the knife in his free hand." Needless to say, Joran was overpowered and his escape attempt foiled.

And what on earth could have prompted the accused murderer to think he could fight his way out of the infamous Peruvian prison with a bleeding hostage and a homemade shiv? Cocaine, of course. Or as one source explained:

"In his drugged state, he probably imagined he could hold the guard hostage and maybe escape." Right.

Latin American prisons bear notorious reputations for alleged substandard conditions and even human rights violations. If daily life for Miguel Castro prison's regular inmates is pure hell, imagine how horrific it must be for those who have been consigned to the "hole" for punishment. Like Joran van der Sloot.

And it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

Isn’t Vander Sloot being held in a coastal prison? They need to transfer him to the one where political prisoners are held that is at 12,000 feet. That will take the wind out of his sails and send him into ill health for the rest of his days.

Floaters like him are hard to flush, but if you are persistent it can be done. It will probably be another prisoner who does it.

His father died a few years ago.

I suspect the Peruvians keep him alive because his trial has yet to come and because he’s a foreigner. His Peruvian victim was the daughter of a prominent citizen so he’ll get his desserts for sure.

The mother kept the story alive to make sure that her daughter might receive some sort of “justice.” I applaud the mother.

It stays in the news because he has not been brought to justice.

Right. It should also stay in the news because it is a warning to the vulnerable.

Monsters do exist among us, and they often don't look like you'd expect them to look.

Joran van der Sloot’s father is a judge and that's why the Natalie Holloway investigation never went anywhere. However, van der Sloot screwed-up by killing Stephany Flores. Several major mistakes: 1) He was in Peru where daddy has no influence; 2) Flores’ father is well-connected to the Peruvian government.

Van der Sloot really condemned himself to a prison hell for however long is miserable life might be. This is the best kind of justice — where the criminal selects is own punishment. Van der Sloot isn't getting out of this intact or alive. The clock is ticking and he's about out of luck.

They need to just sprinkle his food with strychnine and be done with this rodent.

I'm thinking the guards will be sprinkling his food with something other than that from now on.....:)

“I’ve never understood the absolute fascination with the death of one pretty teenager years and years ago.’

It’s because most of us are parents, and most of us are very protective of our vulnerable girls. It is our greatest fear to have one of our daughters disappear.

Add in the mystery (we don’t know exactly what happened).

Maybe he'll be helped to commit suicide.

His Peruvian victim was the daughter of a prominent citizen

As I heard it he was twice a contender for President of Peru and personal friends with the current President. Case closed...

My question is: this vermin has been in that hellhole of a jail since June. His attack on the prison guard happened last month. The article says that he was high on cocaine when he attacked the guard. If this is such a badass hellhole prison, how on earth is it that scum like this guy has access to recreational drugs? There’s no way, no matter what, he should be able to access anything that helps him pass the time in an altered state. That pisses me off!
