Gov't Research Also Shows Them Much Higher in Vitamin D; Dietitian: Credit Healthier Animal Feed, in Part

(CBS) If you like eggs, this is good news: A new government study finds they're actually 14 percent lower in cholesterol and 64 percent higher in vitamin D than previously thought.

Registered Dietitian Cynthia Sass stopped by the "The Early Show" Tuesday to explain what this may mean for your health.

What caused this change in cholesterol and vitamin D levels?

Sass, the author of "Cinch!: Conquer Cravings, Drop Pounds, and Lose Inches," told "Early Show" co-anchor Chris Wragge the saying "You are what you eat" applies to chickens too: Healthier feed results in healthier eggs.

Of course! The egg is probably the best thing you can eat in one package. I eat one a day and I’m fine. Of course I have chickens so they’re fresh and incredibly better than store bought.

Another example of government “science” that turns out to be a lie. In two or three decades, we will recognize that our brains need cholesterol and cutting it too low with medications such as Crestor and Lipitor can impair cognition over time. But hey, statins made billions for big pharma; so don’t look for the prescription/dementia link to be announced anytime soon.

Egg yolks are one of the anti-aging foods.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Next year they’ll spend your tax money on another study that says different. I stopped listening to them in the 60’s when they said that bar-b-q steak was bad for you. Nothin is takin my bar-b-q’d steak away from me.

From what I’ve already been reading this “science” is already being proven false as far as cholesterol goes. And add severe muscle pain and spasms to the list of statin side effects. They almost killed me and I’m not exaggerating.

Same here! Now, if the weather would warm up so they would start laying again I would feel better!

"When an egg was added to a low-calorie breakfast, overweight dieters lost 65 percent more weight than when they had the same number of calories from carbohydrates."

Atkins was right.

Not for the chick. ;)

I like three or four at a time...

Eggs are bad for you. Yeah, right! From the same crowd that is now pushing global warming. I stopped listening to these idiots years ago.

Good news, KAS.

Now, if only someone would tell me what a LARGE egg really is. What’s marked large in my supermarket is what used to be called, “small.”

If you put a light on a timer in their coop and give them 14 hours of light a day they will continue to lay. I have 13 hens and get 9 or 10 eggs a day all winter.
