My uncle was in SAC, a navigator on a tanker if I recall. What I do remember is that they were stationed in Minot, ND, and they had to plug in their car in winter or the engine oil congealed.

There was an old BBQ joint across the street from the entrance to Ellington Field. All of the astronauts ate there at one time or another.
