Walker Should Bring Criminal Charges Against Teachers
My Diseased Brain ^ | February 17, 2011 | Vanity

Since Wisconsin teachers called in "sick" and later appeared at political rallies at the statehouse and appeared on TV, haven't they violated criminal statutes and shouldn't the governor have criminal charges brought against them, and have them fired. Forthwith?

Isn't it against the law for a civil servant to make a false health claim and absent ones self from one's place of work? Criminal malingering.

In Texas, on top of the various long vacation periods, my wife gets 10 payed sick days from the state and 5 from her district every year and they accrue without limit. At her school it is not uncommon for teachers nearing retirement to have a year’s worth of sick leave built up. They have some minor surgery and just never come back to work, retiring when the sick time runs out.

The Teacher’s Union contract in Malden prohibits the attendance of teachers to be reported to HR in city Hall.

Walker could do several things. He could, (if he has their photos at the rally), fire them for openly and recklessly abusing school policy, LYING to the school authorities, setting a very bad example for the students, and abusing the public trust who pay the teachers' salaries. -- Or he could demand they get a doctor's note declaring they were examined that day, or the day before, and their 'sickness' needs to be clearly described by the physician. -- Stand strong Mr. Walker, stand strong.

First, he could do nothing in a blanket fashion. Second, he would have to ascertain the reason given for each teacher's absence for all the teachers absent on the day in question. If a teacher took a personal day or an unpaid day of leave, there is nothing that could be done against that teacher. The investigation into each of the absent teachers would take thousands of hours of investigation and report writing time. This would cost tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. The governor would then be hit with accusations of being the wastrel of public funds he is criticizing.

No need to do that, just stop paying them.

Doesn’t really sound like a criminal offense to me. More like a civil issue. The state should dock their pay, and discipline them. There are probably terms in the contract about how teachers can be disciplined, and those need to be followed, but they should treat them as harshly as the contract allows.

I’m a teacher. Sometimes health problems happen. (forgive me, but I never wanted it)

Yes sometimes they do, my wife teaches third grade and was sick Monday.

I am sure the students of Wisconsin have learned a lesson they will not soon forget.

"The governor would then be hit with accusations of being the wastrel of public funds he is criticizing."

Then he could simply do that which the unions are forcing him to do, fire 5,000 of their members to balance the budget.

Just a thought, I wonder if a state referendem, (vote), on the Governor's plan would give him more political capital to do what he needs to do? The people who pay these so-called "little people" are now making less than the "little people" are. So there is a new class of "little people", it is the PRIVATE SECTOR workers who pay these overpayed union thugs and dumbed-down cretens who are posing as "teachers".
