A Caliph (head of state) is exempt from being charged with serious crimes such as murder, adultery, robbery, theft, drinking and in some cases of rape.

Cool deal to be a caliph!

This was a good article, particularly the obeservation on the connections between culture and cultus, that is, worship.

I think the article is deeper than it might at first appear.

I find myself turning often to Adams’s remark to his wife that our constitution is suited only to a religious and moral people (paraphrase). He saw that some consensus on a minimal skeleton of a “cultus” was necessary for our society to work.

So this article invites us to consider how that is true and how, in the face of the current erosion and shattering of culture, we can amend this.
